sara mom Posted November 26, 2010 #1 Share Posted November 26, 2010 We are heading to Baltimore next weekend and was wondering if anyone from the area has some good ideas of any great xmas light displays to visit. We are driving down the day before departure and staying at the Sleep Inn near the airport. Thanks!
dnbguy Posted November 26, 2010 #2 Share Posted November 26, 2010 In the city, you want to visit the 700 block of West 34th Street in the Hampden neighborhood. Every house is elaborately decorated with tons of lights. For a taste, go here: http://www.yelp.com/biz/hampden-christmas-street-holiday-show-baltimore. The pictures posted there don't really do it justice, though. There is also the lighting of the Washington Monument on Thursday, December 2. The drawback to these is that they are in the city, so it'd be a bit of a drive from the airport. I am not sure about places closer to the airport. bus man Posted November 27, 2010 #3 Share Posted November 27, 2010 I heartily concur with the 34th Street suggestion. It's really something that has to be seen to be believed. It's kind of gaudy, kind of over-the-top, and very, very Baltimore. (I mean this as a compliment.) Make sure you have a GPS, or some really good directions; it's not all that easy to find if you're not familiar with the area. If the OP wants something closer to the airport area, I would suggest Symphony of Lights in Columbia. It's a drive-through light display set to accompanying Christmas music. Quite nice, and well worth the time. It's long been a Christmas tradition in my family. http://www.hcgh.org/content/symphonyoflights/default.htm (It's put on by Howard County General Hospital, hence the link to their website.) Have a great trip!
