Do not miss this place. It is one of the most awesome places I have ever been. To stand on the edge of a cliff overlooking some of the most beautiful blue green seas you have ever seen is an experience i will never forget. Plus it is really neat if you like history. The fact that hundreds of years ago Mayan priests were standing in the same spot is just phenomenal. Highly recommended.:)

I thoroughly enjoyed this excursion. The site is extremely interesting and the setting is absolutely beautiful. Don't forget to wear your swimsuit under your other clothes so you can take advantage of the fantastic beach. The open nature of the site also offered a great contrast to Lamanai in Belize.

An actual lunch stop sounds better than what we had - a sack with juice and snacks (poor to mediocre). We also made an obligatory bathroom (read shopping) stop near the site.

Shopping at Tulum is very poor. There is a lot of tourist junk and I would not waste my time.

I definitely recommend this tour!

We made the tour in thankfully dry weather.

Highly recommend it. Above two posts are accurate.

However, if it is raining I hate to think what it would be like out there with no protection from the rain. So if cloudy definetly bring rain gear and old shoes. Otherwise, expect to get drenched in a rain storm or shower.

Having said that it is a must see. But definetly take a tour from the vessel as it is a distance and you can easily be late in returning to vessel. It is way out in a remote area, but just off of a Mexican equivalent of a US Interstate Highway. Your cruise vessel will wait for their tours to return. If you are on your own bad judgement and good luck.

Tulum was awesome! The tour took all day so as already suggested I would stick with a ship oraganized tour. We had a rough boat ride from Cozumel to the main land which my wife and I really enjoyed but could tell that some others didn't care for. Our bus stopped at a small shop on the way that had free tequila shots. The ruins at Tulum were incredible. We had a great guide that carried pictures of the ruins at certain times of the year like the winter solctace (?sp) where the sun would line up just perfectly with certain rock formations. The water was clear blue. There were huge lizards crawling around the ruins. The most insightful info for me was when our guide talked about how the elite priests lived within the confines of Tulum supported by heavy "taxation" on the poor residents who lived in villages outside the stone walls. None of their buildings survive because they only had straw huts. The subjection of the poor by the elite (often by religion) has a long history, especially in my faith, Christianity. It was a great trip and comes highly recommended. The only problem was that it took the whole day and we saw nothing of Cozumel. We will be back there in September with our kids and will spend the day at the beach.
