missmlt Posted November 29, 2010 #1 Share Posted November 29, 2010 What does it mean when they say the beach is closed? Restroom facilities are locked? no lifeguard on duty? I assume we could still use the beach even though it is "closed" right? Dh has to see a beach while in PR, I really would rather spend the day in Old San Juan and tour the forts so I am looking for a beach to spend an hour at to keep the hubby happy, and still be able to tour the town. Any suggestions? We are in port 1pm-11:00pm.
rainforestgirl Posted November 29, 2010 #2 Share Posted November 29, 2010 I believe it is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Yes, when a "balneario" is closed, it means the services are not open. You can still go to the beach and swim and sun bathe etc, but the bathrooms are locked, no lifeguards, food, no parking etc. But you can walk in for free, or use the parking lot across the street and enjoy the day. rainforestgirl Posted December 2, 2010 #4 Share Posted December 2, 2010 Is it a nice beach? Are there chaises and shade? Thanks No chair rentals that I remember, but there are trees for shade. I think it is a nice beach, not the best in the world, but nice. The view to the west (the forts etc) is lovely.
orquidia Posted December 3, 2010 #5 Share Posted December 3, 2010 El Escambrón is one of the Balnearios in Puerto Rico that are awarded each year with a European Blue Flag Beach International Award. The country has 6 Blue Flag beaches, 2 of them in the metropolitan area. http://www.blueflag.org/Menu/Blue+Flag+beaches%2fmarinas/2010/Southern+Hemisphere/PuertoRico/List/Beaches
