It depends on what's offered. I really prefer sailing with HAL ... but their Mariner program offers piddly for returning guests. Pins and medals based on number of days sailed, a souvenir tile, and a cocktail party on board is about it. Princess gives you things like free internet access and more when you reach platinum level.

 

The only way to "join" that I know of is to cruise a second time. You're then a member.

 

All considered, I choose to cruise on the basis of what product gives me what I'm looking for at the time. The perks of any cruise line's repeat passenger program are only ancillary.
