What Should I do?????

Hello Everyone,

I booked a 6A GTY, a while back, on the Valor departing 3/6/05. My travel agent just called me and told me that the rates have gone down since I booked and that I would be eligible for a $40 pp upgrade. However, there is a catch. She told me that my room number has been assigned (2478) and that if I took the on board credit I would loose the current room I have and be put back into the pool of other guarantees. I looked at the ships floor plan and my current room is located at the very Aft of the ship. I also asked about being upgraded to a balcony, but this was $300 more pp. Does anyone have any advice? What do you guys think I should do  ? Thanks.

Everyone has a different take on this, but after reading so many negatives about GTEE rooms, I called a few weeks ago and changed mine to an assigned cabin. My particular balcony cabin (on the Upper deck- 6th floor) could end up directly over the loudest public areas on the ship (the casino, buffet, disco etc). I chose my cabin, purposely not forward in the ship and pver a quiet area. I feel better knowing what I'm buying. A GTEE cabin is a gamble and I'm not much for leaving things to chance that I don't need to;) . And from what I hear, upgrades are becoming less frequent as the ships are filling up, especially a new ship like the Valor. I'm sure there are those that can tell you stories of magnificent upgrades, but I won't be one of them :) .

In Nov. I booked GTEE inside for my kids and GTEE balcony for myself. Kids got upgraded to a partially obstructed view balcony, and I got upgraded to an extended balcony. My room was right over Pharoa's Palace, the showroom, but I never heard anything from below. We loved our room.

I personally, prefer to pay less and have the chance for a cool upgrade. I just GTEE the minimum category I know I will be happy with. But, I also can sleep through any ship motion. So, I don't have to worry about being at the very front or back of the ship.

Do you mind if I ask how old your kids are & if you book their room in your name? Am taking a 17 & 19 yro with us but booked dh & 17yro in our cat 11. booked myself & 19yro old in gtee inside. Not planning on staying in the inside room, am going to do the switch key thing. Would really like to skip all that, do you know if I can change names on the rooms & book the boys in their own room?

We just booked 2 weeks ago, for a cruise that leaves in 3 weeks. When our travel agent called Carnival to make the booking she informed them that 1 cabin was for the kids (ages 12, 18 & 18) and the other was for us (the parents) and no problem. I've read other posts that the parents had to be split between the cabins, but this will be our 3rd cruise with the kids and we've never had any problems booking them in their own cabin. Also, we've always booked with cabins next to each other.

I booked DH in one cabin with the 12 & 14 yo. And me in the other with the 15 yo. We just switched our S&S cards when we boarded.
