gtmerc Posted February 24, 2005 #1 Share Posted February 24, 2005 Going on Sapphire 10/1. Do we need to worry about hurricanes on the west coast? Still looking for San Pedro Hotel. Any suggestions?
dakrewser Posted February 25, 2005 #2 Share Posted February 25, 2005 It could be a problem. See the eastern Pacific hurrican track map here (2003 is the latest they have, evidently). Note that most head due west, but some occasionally run NNW up along Baja.
SHayesShip Posted March 4, 2005 #3 Share Posted March 4, 2005 You are still in hurricane season during October and they do happen on the West coast of Mexico frequently. They do not come ashore all that often. However they can cause enough turbulence with the seas that there have been cruises over the last several years which could not dock safely. During hurricane season you take chances. Look in the pre-post hotels section. A few of the hotel/motels are the Marina Hotel, Sheraton, Holiday Inn, Best Western Sunrise and Vagabond Inn. I prefer the Marina Hotel. I have stayed there 3 times with winning bids through Priceline for a 3 star hotel. The bids have been between $45 and $55. Steve Hayes Going on Sapphire 10/1. stanford's girl Posted March 6, 2005 #4 Share Posted March 6, 2005 Yes, there are hurricanes off the coast of Mexico. We were on Carnival 10 years ago and met "Hurrican Rosa". Stayed out to sea and tried to out run her for 5 days. Missed 2 ports as the ships cannot safely dock. REALLY WINDY and lots of rocking on the ship. No water in the pools as it looked like a huge wave machine with water flying all over the deck. Needless to say we still had a good time and lots of laughs over the fiasco. We are cruising Mexico in Oct. on the Oosterdam and not worried about it. :D
