jfig2 Posted January 2, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 2, 2011 We're thinking of renting a car in Barbados, and exploring the island, rather than merely taking a cab to a beach as we've done before. Any recommendations, prices, places to see?
Sugar*Magnolia Posted January 3, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 3, 2011 We were going to do the same, but opted not to. DH did the investigating and before renting you have to purchase a $55 License. It didnt seem worth it, for us. Here is car rental info http://barbados.org/tours/barbados_car_rentals.htm Im not sure the license thing is mentioned here. I can ask DH where he found that info. An interesting note on Barbados: there was a security guy standing right there by all the taxi-vans so we asked him about getting to Accra/Rockely. He got on his walkie talkie and a van came right over..I dont know why, but it became a scene with security and taxi commission arguing, so we got out of the van and moved on. We dont know whagt to make of this incident, you would think security would know whats going on!?
dreamgirl236 Posted January 13, 2011 #3 Share Posted January 13, 2011 I just reserved a car on Barbados and they charged $5.00 for the drivers permit. My friend did all the research and recommended Stout:http://stoutescar.com/index.php They don't charge anything until you pick up the car. Has anyone had any experience with them? ming Posted January 14, 2011 #4 Share Posted January 14, 2011 Yes, Stoutes Rental at the cruise terminal is OK. They've been around the island for many years and never any trouble that I've heard about. In fact, if you have car trouble they have a crew to come out and help you as part of the contract. Driver permit on the island is $5US for two months or $50US for a year, as I recall. Stoutes can provide one when you show your stateside license.
