Rum Factory

I couldn't find this information on the forum:

I am trying to decide between the cruise tour that includes the cruzan rum factory or just taking a taxi to the factory and doing our own walking/sight seeing. How far away is the factory? Is it within walking distance? How much would a taxi cost to the factory?

Any other advice someone may have on the topic would be great.

Thanks in advance!

Deffinitely not within walking distance, but it is on the right (west) end of the island. Sort of. Don't know what the cab fare would be. I'd go with the tour.

Agreed! We visited the Cruzan Rum Distillery as part of an Island Tour last December (2011).

Sweeny's Safari Tours welcomed us to St. Croix - sightseeing and learning about St. Croix's history, cultural traditions, politics, botany, and more.

1. Tour started at the Pier in FREDERIKSTED and we headed to our first stop:

The Cruzan Rum Distillery - producing the world's finest rum since 1650.

The Nelthropp family continues the tradition of producing this high quality rum using only the purest, natural ingredients and process.

A visit to the distillery showed us how Cruzan Rum is made. After the tour we were offered free samples at the visitor's pavilion, and could buy the many varieties of rum and merchandise directly from the source!

You should visit the Cruzan Distillery, by all means! It was a very nice and informative tour with unlimited samples at the end of the tour. The interesting thing about the whole tour was that even though the rum is distilled here in St. Croix, it has to be shipped to West Palm, Florida, to be bottled....and then shipped back to St. Croix for sale. The amazing part was that we purchased great rum at $6.00 a bottle at the distillery even knowing that the bottling process was only a few hours from our home town.
