knarf Posted January 5, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 5, 2011 Hi, I have read many articles on these boards about taxis to the old city, but have not seen anything about taxi's to the fort and how much? After the fort in the AM, we want to go to the old city for a couple of hours , then back to the ship. How far and about how much is it from the fort to the old city? As was suggested by some on these boards to do the fort in the AM before it gets to warm, then do old city in PM. Thanks so much Frank
Mercruiser Posted January 5, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 5, 2011 Frank, The fort and the old city are very close to each other - within 1/2 mile. Follow this link to Cartagena maps and click on View Larger Map. The fare from the cruise ship pier to/from the fort or the old city should all be less in the range of $5 to $10, depending on your negotiating skills. dwick Posted January 10, 2011 #3 Share Posted January 10, 2011 Frank, Yes, you can take a taxi from the port and then another to the Old Town. As you come out of the terminal store there are independent tour guides and then behind the next fence are taxis. Many will want to take you on a tour but you can also go one way. These taxis are normally about $20 to go to the fort or the Old Town. If you walk outside of the port you can negotiate with taxis for a lower rate. You can also get a taxi at the fort to take you to the Old Town. I would not walk it as it is not a walking street and there is construction. The fare should be about $5. Getting a taxi from the Old Town is easy and you should proably plan on spending between $5 - 10. Only about a 10 - 15 minute ride back to the port. You're right, it's best to see the fort in the morning as it gets hot. Pick up a toruism map at the kiosk on the pier or any of the tourism kiosks in the Old Town. Hope you enjoy your visit. We live here and it's great! DAN
