roe2ship Posted February 28, 2005 Author #51 Share Posted February 28, 2005 Mike, a Waffle House and a Krispy Kreme Donut Shop anywhere up "nawth" would be a gold mine. Gotta love those cash businesses, but for alternative dining on a cruise ship, I can't think of anything any better.Stretch Stretch, they opened a Krispy Kreme here in Brick (Jersey Shore) the first in New Jersey about a year ago. There were lines all the time the first few months, but it has died down tremendously. Those donuts are MUCH sweeter than Dunkin Donuts, although I could never pass for the ones coming off the conveyor belt.........hot and fresh, YUMMY! Carl Lafong Posted February 28, 2005 #52 Share Posted February 28, 2005 Let's see if I have this right. This thread has suggested that the ships have Dunkin Donuts, Walgreens, Starbucks, Fatburger, Atomic Burger, Krispy Kreem, White Castle, and several others I may have missed. I believe this translates to a Strip Mall on water! The only thing missing is a SuperCuts, Carry out Chinese food, White Hen Pantry, Payday Loans and a used record store! What a racket .... you pay several thousand to board the ship and are subjected to all the stuff you have within five minutes of your house! And here I thought we cruised to get away from all this! No thanks. I'll take my meals in the dining room and wolf down bad burgers and donuts when I get back!! The above commentary was "tongue in cheek" No flaming neccessary! mojo4trav Posted February 28, 2005 #53 Share Posted February 28, 2005 I never really understood the allure of JRs, since their food is mediocre at best. So I'd gladly give up the space, but only for something like Red Robin or IN-n-Out. I do like Starbucks, but would only be willing to swap that for the Ben & Jerry's. While we're at it, how about adding a Tropical Smoothie Cafe? Great wraps and real fruit smoothies, YUM!
mojo4trav Posted February 28, 2005 #54 Share Posted February 28, 2005 I could never pass for the ones coming off the conveyor belt.........hot and fresh, YUMMY! You forgot to mention my favorite part, the icing waterfall! Ahhh...what I wouldn't pay to be a donut for a day. (I'd hang up my dough before being eaten, of course!) ;)

shipknotshore Posted February 28, 2005 #57 Share Posted February 28, 2005 My teeth hurt just thinking about the Krispy Kreem donuts. They are super sweet, that's for sure. I haven't had a Dunkin Donuts cup of coffee but I think that not all that long ago Consumer Reports rated their coffee as one of the best. Guess I'll have to try it sometime and taste for myself. skiiergirl Posted February 28, 2005 #58 Share Posted February 28, 2005 A DUNKIN DONUTS ON ALL THE SHIPS.........WITH THE FEE? Yes I love REAL coffee. No way. Krispy Kreme maybe....but Dunkin...not a chance!

skiiergirl Posted February 28, 2005 #60 Share Posted February 28, 2005 I don't care for any of the junk food nor do I care for the donuts themselves. I simply wish I can drink much better coffee that is offered on cruise ships. I would rather pay a fee for coffee than for burgers at Johnny Rockets. Even though, no fees should be charged for either establishment, imo. It really can't be that hard for them. I rarely drink coffee (except decaf at dinner to go with my ooey gooey dessert)...but don't they sell "finer" coffee in "Cafe Promenade" on Voyager class and "Lattetuudes" on Radiance class? I could be wrong but I thought you could get better coffees there. If we are going to replace something, I agree with another poster....ditch the Ben & Jerry's and put in a Starbucks. lschrage Posted March 1, 2005 #62 Share Posted March 1, 2005 I'd have to vote for keeping Johhny Rocket's over Dunkin Donuts. Now, I'd gladly give up Johnny Rockets for a California Pizza Kitchen or a Baja Fresh anyday!! Somehow, though, I can't picture a kitchen with a wood-burning oven on a ship:) Lynne
titleistpro1963 Posted March 4, 2006 #63 Share Posted March 4, 2006 I would trade Johnny Rockets with a WHITE CASTLE!! These are primarily located on the East Coast, so I'm sure some of you are wondering, "What the heck is a White Castle." They are great and very addictive, you CRAVE them, don't we people?? Did not go to JR on board, don't feel like I missed anything... But Krispy Kreme... that's a different story, but not sure if I'd pay extra, they'd need to be free... um, I mean included
butterfly2 Posted March 4, 2006 #68 Share Posted March 4, 2006 I have never been to Johnny Rockets but I plan on going in April while onboard the Mariner. Schplinky Posted March 4, 2006 #71 Share Posted March 4, 2006 I woudl totally go for a Panera Bread. We loved the Aqua Spa Cafe on Celebrity and it was nice to be alble to get tasty food that was also healthy.
TexasMom2 Posted March 4, 2006 #72 Share Posted March 4, 2006 I loved Johnny Rockets (don't have 'em in Texas), can live without Krispy Kremes (too sweet) and Dunkin' Donuts, but I have to say if RCI would fix their coffee situation, they would have every cruiseline out there beat. Love Starbucks and anything strong that's made with real beans and not a syrup.
OPSoccermom Posted March 4, 2006 #73 Share Posted March 4, 2006 I'm with you, TexasMom.. Don't need anymore junk food, but when I'm on board, I would KILL for a good cup of coffee, and NO, you cannot find it at Seattle's Best on the Royal Promenade. The only cruise coffee that's ever been decent is at the Cova Cafe bars on X. If they can build ice skating rinks and self-leveling pool tables, wouldn't you think someone at RCI could figure out how to make a good cup of coffee??? Guess I'll have to keep cruising until I can find that great cup o'joe at sea.

Maybe the taste of coffee really is all in the drinker's perception... Or I might be wrong. :)
