Snorkeling in Labadee

The snorkelling isn't all that great. The water is murky, there's very little to see, and the little cove where we were was rough. Maybe it's changed, but at the time, even if you owned your own gear, you had to rent a BC from RCCL. Yes a BC to snorkel.

My husband is planning on bringing his own snorkel gear, but what is a BC?

Bouyancy Compensator - An inflatable life vest you wear over the neck that you can regulate the amount of inflation by a tube with a valve (inflate by mouth), or a catridge of CO2.

We will be going to Labadee for the first time this March and am wondering how the snorkeling is? Any recommendations on which beach area we should try? Thanks

DH and I snorkeled with our own equipment in Nov. We did both sides, and for us it was actually best on the ocean side, under the zipline. We swam out and found a small reef and some fish. Not great, but decent. Bring water shoes though as that side is rocky. The current was pretty strong the day we were there. The other side (cove side) is really calm, but so murky that you can't see anything.
