charged $6.07 foreign transaction fee

Credit card companies typically charge a foreign currency transaction fee when you are making a purchase in a foreign currency. Usually it is approximately 3%. On the bright side- The exchange rate they give you is generally better than you could get exchanging funds locally, so we typically charge purchases in foreign countries whenever possible.

Even though they may have quoted you a price in US dollars they may have to process the credit card transaction in their local currency, which would explain why you were charged a transaction fee.

Thanks for explaining. It just bums me out because I was unaware and it basically negates one of the $5 discounts for group of 6 or more-oh well!

Many U.S. credit card issuers impose this fee, but if you shop around you can minimize its impact. Capital One Bank has no fee. USAA has 1 percent fee. There is no excuse for any bank to impose a 3 percent fee other than a desire to increase its bottom line at no cost.
