Cherrytrees Posted January 13, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2011 Just received booking details from TA, got a shock! Added to our invoice was a fee for port charges £360.00. Is this a normal practice for RCCL - having never cruised with RCCL before we were unware of this charge and was certainly not told about this extra from the TA. Would like more information first before I contact the TA Regards
Sue L Posted January 13, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 13, 2011 No, that is your TA's fault, those should all be disclosed when you purchased the cruise. No cruise lines hides those fees, they are very upfront about them
JCCRYPTO Posted January 13, 2011 #3 Share Posted January 13, 2011 Agree that it was your TAs fault. Cruise lines charge port fees and taxes that are in addition to cruise fare. You should have been informed. By they way, did your TA even ask you about insurance which is an additional charge and really should be purchased. Maybaybie10 Posted January 13, 2011 #4 Share Posted January 13, 2011 In the US they are 'included' when you are given your total cruise fare- they aren't tacked on at another time. On the invoice it is shown as base fare and then added on are port fees and taxes to give you your total and all that is due by final payment. If for some reason you happen to miss a port for whatever reason, they will usually refund that fee from the port you missed.

Cherrytrees Posted January 13, 2011 Author #8 Share Posted January 13, 2011 The TA should have told you the port charges before you booked the cruise. That seems an awful lot for port charges...what sailing is it for? £180.00 each Independence of the Seas - sailing from Southampton  see my apologies above First time cruiser with RCCL, so still a novice. Elizanessie Posted January 13, 2011 #9 Share Posted January 13, 2011 £180.00 each Independence of the Seas - sailing from Southampton  see my apologies above First time cruiser with RCCL, so still a novice. The port charges for Indy on the Canary Islands sailings are around £60 per person. Perhaps your TA has included prepaid gratuities in with that figure of £180 pp. No worries on being a novice..we all had to start sometime...and please if you have any other questions don't be afraid to ask. The Indy is a beautiful ship and you are going to really nice ports of call.:D
