jackaroo69 Posted January 15, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 15, 2011 We're preparing for our seventh cruise in March (NCL Sun). I'm wondering what more experienced cruisers think of shore excursions ... are you likely to book through the ship, or wait until the port and finding something on the dock? Ship bookings seem safe, but they're pretty expensive. Getting something at the dock seems less safe, but these people have to make a living, and if they weren't responsible it seems they'd be quickly put out of business. (In particular, we're wondering about St. Thomas ... my wife is principally interested in a little shopping and some beach time.) Thanks.
NMLady Posted January 15, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 15, 2011 We've done both -- NCL tours and also independent tours, depending on what port. When we were in St Thomas many years ago we did an independent tour with one of the van taxi drivers and another couple, splitting the cost. We saw the same things the ship tour did, much cheaper, and still with a good guide. So I'd say don't be worried about finding someone at the dock in St Thomas.
