New Orleans, LA Deal

Hi Everyone!

Just got a sweet deal on room at a Super 8 before departure. $49.00 plus tax = $56.37 total per room - Free Parking during stay plus Free parking during cruise – 24 hour On Site Security.

Of course, this is no 4 star resort/hotel but I researched it on www.tripadvisor.com and it has pretty good reviews so I'm not too worried.

I called them direct and spoke with Kenneth Matherne (he is the Director of Sales and was extremely nice and very helpful). His phone # is 504-241-5650. He is who gave me the deal. No other hotel could even come close. Here is the hotel information:

Super 8 New Orleans

6322 Chef Menteur Hwy

New Orleans, LA 70126

I would have to agree that his isn't a good area. I don't even feel comfortable driving through this area (we had to for a wedding reception). This is considered "New Orleans East. It is nothing at all like what you would picture New Orleans to be like". I would really reconsider. I normally would not say something like this to someone but in my opinion, it is that scarey. I guess the old saying still applies in some cases, "If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is."

We were a group of 24 going on a family/friends cruise. Let me first start by saying Kenneth at the Super 8 was AWESOME. He is the Manager of the hotel and is so great to work with. I was in constant contact with him for almost a year...confirming, adding, changing names, etc. until the day we arrived. He was very professional, helpful and did everything to make our group stay more enjoyable.

The hotel is a great place to stay if you are on a budget. It is nice, clean, and very accomodating. Each room total was $56.39 (tax included) and we were able to leave all of our vehicles in the secured covered parking around back at no additional charge while on our cruise. The hotel is within 10 minutes of the French Quarter, about 20 minutes from Harrah's Casino and about 30 minutes from the cruise terminal.

The front desk staff was extremely helpful especially since our group checked in at different times thoughout the day and night. It's not near many restaurants or places that are within walking distance so we drove to most places.

Although, many say the hotel is not located in the best of neighborhoods, I can honestly say it is definitely a diamond in the rough. 24 of us stayed here and we left 9 vehicles here for 7 nights while cruising and we would not hesitate to stay here again and again.

Our vehicles included 2010 GMC Yukon Denali, 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2-Ford Extended cab trucks, 2009 Ford F250, 2007 Lincoln Towncar, 2005 Minivan, 2007 Camry. NONE of our vehicles were tampered with nor were they stripped.

I am going to agree with the local posters here - this is not in a very good area and I would not recommend it. I know they are trying to improve the area, but this area has not turned around yet.

after all the feedback, I canceled my room there. So any suggestions on a hotel where I can leave me car for the cruise?

Many stay at the Drury. We stayed once and enjoyed it. New Orleans has so many options. I would use a website that will allows you to search by area (I think Orbitz has a way to do this) and choose only to search in French Quarter or Central Business or when looking at Orbitz, click New Orleans and only look at hotels that are less than one mile to the center of New Orleans.

If your budget simply cannot afford something in this area, I would pick Kenner, by the airport over New Orleans East. I would pick the Northshore of New Orleans, Mandeville or Covington, absolutely anything other than New Orleans East. I have lived in NOLA by whole life and I cannot stress it enough, you do not want to stay at Super 8 in New Orleans East. You would be like a complete prisoner in your hotel, not even able to go to a fast food restaurant or grocery store.

Hey TheBubbs we are on the same cruise!!!! I think we are going to stay at the holiday inn in metairie. Its not actually in NOLA but they have an excellent park and cruise deal that includes 2 drinks, 2 breakfasts (at their restaurant from what I understand), free parking, and a shuttle to and from the terminal.

Thanks would have never thought that about that area. Although I know it's not far from the FQ new orleans east has not recovered much since Katrina.
