san juan after dark

We are getting into San Juan at two in the afternoon. That is a little late for a beach day... and we are wondering about the safety of wandering around after dark. Are there some outdoor restaurants close to the cruise port that might have some live music and salsa dancing? We think it might be fun to grab some drinks and chill, while listening to some music. But the safety factor comes first! Thanks for any input!

Those are good questions. DH & I will be staying in San Juan over night after our cruise. I was wondering the same things.

We dock at 4pm and leave at 11:00 pm...seems like a waste of a port to me. What is there to do at that time especially since we have the earlier seating for dinner?

If you are in Old San Juan, we felt very safe at night. DW and I walked around alot at night. There is a very lively night life in OSJ, lots of places to eat or get a drink, dance, or just people watch.
