Retired Sparky Posted January 21, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 21, 2011 We sailed on the Legend 1-9-11 party of 13, we had five - 8J extended balcony cabins and we opened all doors and one regular balcony about 8 rooms away. This was are ninth carnival and 16 over all, there were four new to cruising people they are now hooked. All are from Wisconsin and the cold so the weather was not a factor except Cozumel where it was cool but we just bar hopped anyway. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Rocky Point the night before cheap clean rooms, shuttled over to the ship using Blue One $10 pp. Arrived at the ship at 11:20, eating by 11:55 fastest ever. Went to cabin and dropped off our carryon bags at 1:00 and started to drink and explore before sail away. The ship is going to dry-docked soon, so I can over look some of things- a little warn and rusty but not bad over all. Some chairs broke and bench’s torn but the beds were good. The ship was always clean and the crew happy and helpful. All in all we like this size of this ship and Tampa as a departing port we would sail her again. Rooms always clean and made twice a day. Same old Carnival rooms small with lots of storage. It was nice to get all balcony doors open,we met for pre breakfast coffee and bagels with salmon every morning. Our rooms mine was 6263 in the middle of them-the location ok but maybe go up one floor. Shows were ok we just need something to pass the time together, lounge singers good and most will take requests. We all need to remember this is not Vegas and live music is nice to see on a ship. The casino ok I broke even and my wife lost, but my sister won big again. I do not smoke but live with two and could not sense smoke in the casino. The dealers were friendly and the bar service good. Food this was good to fair. It has come down some in the last years, you have to try the lasagna the first night. The ribs on the first night GREAT bad the last night, lobster and shrimp excellant and our waiter brought more and more without asking. We had anytime dinning , first night we waited 5 min., after that walked right in all 13, had to split up in 8-5 but they kept the tables next to each other with the same server so we were at the same pace. Had 3 different servers for the week but all worked hard and got everyone’s order right also served extras when we liked something. Went to the pay restaurant one night, spend the extra $30 it is worth it. The first lunch was a zoo the first day at the buffet but after that not to crowded. Only ate breakfast there, had room service for lunch or hamburgers very good have some chicken tenders as well. Ports , Grand Cayman we booked stingraysialing + com nice catamaran they only book 29 people lots of room, it was a little windy but a good choice at $50 pp Roatan - Booked Maya Key with the ship all I can say is WOW nice beach, zoo, shops and bar. At lunch they served a great sea bass the best all loved it. Bucket of beer $15 for six beers $22 for 4 on the ship ,$8 for island delight I had one and could not walk. Belize- went with cavetubing with a bz got off the ship early and they picked us up at the pier. Private tour for 10, we went through two caves and they did all the work. The walk to the river was as much fun as the tubing, after a short ride to his restaurant for a free lunch rice and beans good, chicken not so good free punch and beer they got us back to port with two hours to shop. We had two guides who dragged us around working very hard always smiling and helping Cozumel- We just bar hopped here try the No Name Bar just north of the port, this is where the crew go, cheap drinks and good. Disembarkation was a breeze. We all used luggage express well worth the $20 pp .We had a late flight and never saw our bags until back in Milwaukee. Went to Ybor city and watched the bear game. Good food at the Ybor City Brewery, Ride the trolley over. Last thoughts I am not a Carnival cheerleader we cruise others but my first cruise was the Carnival Fascination 18 years ago .$925 pp for a inside cabin. Last week $699 for a nice balcony room the food not as good but better than we normally eat. For $266 pp cheaper eat in the pay restaurant every night and still save money from early cruising days. PS all rum runners made it

Colorado Kat Posted January 21, 2011 #6 Share Posted January 21, 2011 Once rum-runners in shoes, toss your toiletry kit on top. (shampoos, lotions, etc) Want lots of bottle shapes to confuse images.

ciship Posted January 22, 2011 #8 Share Posted January 22, 2011 How did you book Maya Key in Roatan? Was it crowded? Could you tell me more about the zoo? How many animals and what type? Could you hold any of them? Did you take a taxi there? How far? Thanks!
ciship Posted January 22, 2011 #9 Share Posted January 22, 2011 In Belize, what type of tube and life jacket did the company use? How did they transport you (what type vehicle) and keep you entertained on the long drive? Also, was the vehicle well air conditioned?

HMC RET Posted January 22, 2011 #11 Share Posted January 22, 2011 Great review. We are thinking of booking the Legend Western in July. Does anyone know when the ship will be in the Dry Dock and what they are planning to do? Thanks
