Port Canaveral - Carnival - Car Rental

We will be sailing on the Carnival Pride on 2/6/11 and will in Port Canaveral on 2/8/11. We would like to rent a car and drive to Universal Studios for the day. We have been to Orlando many times and feel very comfortable doing this.

My question is this. Where and with who should we rent our car? We plan on being in the first wave to leave the ship and also plan on being back to Port Canaveral sometime around 4:30 - 5:00.

Is it an easy process? Shuttle Buses? Crowded? Will the car be waiting for me if I rent it ahead of time? I don't rent a lot but am enrolled in the preferred with Avis and Thrifty.

Thanks for all of the help! Eric

We sailed out of Port Canaveral on the Dream in November. We rented a car from Thrifty at the Airport and dropped it off the the day prior to sailing. They had a shuttle drop us at our hotel. We had a reservation for debarkation day to pick up in Cocoa Beach and return the next day at the airport. The process was very simple, gather your luggage and walk over to the shuttle area. We reached this area about 8:30 am and boarded the shuttle. The other shuttles were leaving at that time too so it seems like we just made that trip. Its a short 5-10 drive to the rental office, I think the paperwork took at bit longer to process.
