Colonialdame Posted January 24, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 24, 2011 Is it customary to tip your butler for serving breakfast or dinner in your suite, or is this a service that is already compensated by the additional gratuity charged for being in a suite? Just curious.
Gonzo70 Posted January 24, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 24, 2011 That is part of their normal duties, so no extra tipping is required for that service; you are already tipping the butler $3.50 per person/per day. If you frequently utilize them for room service that would be a factor you consider at the end of the cruise in terms of weighing whether or not to give them an extra tip for their overall level/quality of service they provided throughout your cruise. 2SeaWithMe Posted January 24, 2011 #3 Share Posted January 24, 2011 I guess we way over-tipped the butler! LOL Wish we could've given him what was added for the cabin steward, he seemed to do both jobs.
debsea Posted January 25, 2011 #4 Share Posted January 25, 2011 We tipped our butler generously at the end of our 10-day cruise, over and above the deducted amount. We didn't tip him on each occasion that he delivered room service or arranged for parties with catering that we hosted in our cabin.
cp556 Posted January 25, 2011 #5 Share Posted January 25, 2011 We're sailing Monday in a suite on Century so this thread was very timely. Since we chose Celebrity Select dining, we prepaid our gratuities ... and Celebrity advises that the butler is included in the $15/pp/day tips we've prepaid. We intend to tip him a little extra if we request a lot of additional services and/or he goes that extra mile.
Rare Caroldoll Posted January 25, 2011 #6 Share Posted January 25, 2011 good we give A LOT more during or at the end. We always tell him that the first time is just the beginning and it depends on him.
Colonialdame Posted January 25, 2011 Author #7 Share Posted January 25, 2011 Thanks to each of you for your perspective. I think we would be most comfortable adding to the prepaid amount at the end of the cruise, especially if we find ourselves using his services beyond the afternoon goodies and evening canapes. librarylady19 Posted January 26, 2011 #8 Share Posted January 26, 2011 Our butler on Summit, Bart, brought breakfast and afternoon tea. We added a separate tip for both he and the room steward at the end of the cruise but did not tip each time we received daily services.
We-R-Off Posted January 26, 2011 #9 Share Posted January 26, 2011 We've just returned from our Western Caribbean. We gave our Butler $2 each time he brought us our breakfast, but not for the other snacks, ice or water he brought us during the rest of the day. The butler is there to meet YOUR needs (food, drink, reservations, dry cleaning, questions, shoe shining, etc). The steward and his assistant are responsible for your SUITE (cleaning, resupplying).
