blondietink Posted January 27, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 27, 2011 Traveling on CArnival in February with a stop in Progreso. I am looking for a nice tooled leather purse if they make them anymore and also decent silver jewelry. How is the shopping for these items in Progresso? I don't know if I want to give up beach time for a trip into Meridia to shop.
suezyq50 Posted January 27, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 27, 2011 There are shops when you first get off the ship. In Progresso itself, I didn't see much shopping, but we didn't venture out very far.
AWCHIEF Posted January 31, 2011 #3 Share Posted January 31, 2011 There is an excellent leather store right at the port stores before you go into town. The prices are negotiable and bartering is the order of the day. They will be happy to do custom tooling for you. There are also seveal leather stores in Progreso off the main drag. Ask the Autoprogreso employee on the bus taking you into town for locations. Also in Merida just a couple of blocks off the main square there is a street that has several leather shops. WilliamLawson Posted February 5, 2011 #4 Share Posted February 5, 2011 Keep in mind that silver jewelry and leather that one normally associates with Mexico is from central Mexico, not the Yucatan, so it is not as predominant an item here. fewer111 Posted February 16, 2011 #5 Share Posted February 16, 2011 Dont shop at the pier or in Progreso village...for good shopping it is worth the 20 min trip into Merida City!
