Calling US Toll-Free Number while on shore?

While on shore at Grand Cayman, does anyone have any experience with placing calls to US (or other countries) from a landline phone?

 

If it's a US toll-free number, is it free?

 

Are calling cards easy to purchase?

With rare exception, US toll free numbers are not free from Cayman. Time is billed at full international rates.

 

The best option is to use a Skype enabled phone near an internet hot spot and be sure you are calling using Skype and not cell. A Skype phone can call toll free US numbers for free.

Appreciate the info, Drew. Don't have Skype (or a Skype-enabled smartphone) now, but will look into creating a Skype account. Sounds like it might be possible to use the laptop to place VOIP phone calls?

Yes you can skype from your laptop at a wireless cafe. Also, if you get off early enough there was a place right on the pier that had phone rentals for $5 and could call US for 20 minutes for $10 I think it was.
