dodger501 Posted February 3, 2011 Author #76 Share Posted February 3, 2011 We took a little walk down the beach, Karen built a little sand castle for granddaughter (that's right folks, Karen is a granny): This picture is my Blackberry wallpaper. Looking back toward the beach club: A vocalist, he was doing mainly Harry Belafonte, calypso-type music: The rubber band man was back: These women were really good dancers: Hey, we found Joan there! dodger501 Posted February 3, 2011 Author #77 Share Posted February 3, 2011 It started to rain, it didn't last long so we went up under the shelter, it was nearing time to go anyway. Back to the port, Karen wanted to get some tanzanite so I wandered around outside: The road back to the ship was lined with 'merchants' but there was a significant police presence. No offers of Bob Marley or dope and they took no for an answer, thank goodness. We walked with a couple who had gone into town and they described it as a very unpleasant experience. Near the pier now, picking up some souvenirs for the folks back home: Bye-bye to our last port of call: Bye, Jamaica. It's been real. And it's been fun. But it hasn't been Real Fun: That rascally room steward is at it again, our towel 'man' is under the bed now!

dodger501 Posted February 3, 2011 Author #79 Share Posted February 3, 2011 I'm loving your review! Great colorful pictures too! I got a new camera for my bday that I can't wait to use on our cruise and play with the settings for different lightings. Good for you! Now, same advice as I gave remharri: Read your manual. Read it again. Practice a lot. It helps enormously to have a good image editor for color, exposure, cropping, etc. I use Photoshop CS5 but you can get Photoshop Elements at a reasonable price. I am sure you will do fine.

Rare nbsjcruiser Posted February 3, 2011 #81 Share Posted February 3, 2011 Great pictures and a great review. Would you mind telling me what type of camera you use and lenses, filters and so on? thanks
cruiserNC Posted February 3, 2011 #82 Share Posted February 3, 2011 On the ride through town back to the pier: The Liberty is still there. We had a long line for the tender but they had 2 of them going so it did not take too much time: One last look at the harbor before boarding: Another beautiful sunset: Intruder alert! I have to admit, this guy gave us a start when we walk in and turn on the lights. He stuffed pillows and towels inside one of the bathrobes, beach towels for legs and my shoes. Very clever, for sure! Wow nice!!!

dodger501 Posted February 3, 2011 Author #84 Share Posted February 3, 2011 Great pictures and a great review. Would you mind telling me what type of camera you use and lenses, filters and so on? thanks Thank you, nbsjcruiser. Someone else asked that earlier, here is what I said: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=27721815&postcount=31 As far as filters, none. Except for the UV that stays on all the time - more for protecting the lens than anything else.
Ashala Posted February 3, 2011 #85 Share Posted February 3, 2011 Beautiful review! Although not going on the same ship, when I sail in about 3 weeks I'll be stopping at some of those ports, so it was really nice to get an idea of what to expect. Thank you! dodger501 Posted February 4, 2011 Author #90 Share Posted February 4, 2011 All cruise long, I had vowed to get up before the sun and get some sunrise shots. As you will shortly see, the light is fabulous - I even like it better than sunsets. I do not, however, like getting up early so hence the procrastination. But I got 'er done and was amply rewarded. Check this out: That last one kind of looks like HDR, but it's not.
dodger501 Posted February 4, 2011 Author #91 Share Posted February 4, 2011 Here are the 2 HDR shots I did. The first one, I sat the camera on a Lido table and propped it with the lens cap in lieu of the tripod. The second one, the camera just rested on the aft railing on Deck 10. There was a final Meet & Greet in the Tapestry Room but I muffed the time and arrived late. I followed the Looneys up to the casino for the Slot Pull, led by Kathi & Steve (LoveToRide). Not bad, each person put in $10 and ended up getting $20 back:
dodger501 Posted February 4, 2011 Author #92 Share Posted February 4, 2011 Then it's back up to the Lido. Yep, it's crowded, sunny, and hot. And I love it! Todd is running the show: The pool is crowded but notice not too many chair hogs. Hey, I see Chelle! A speedo. I don't believe it. There is at least one on every cruise, isn't there? Kelly & Mitch: Karen gets one more turn on the water slide. Hot day, therefore long line:
dodger501 Posted February 4, 2011 Author #93 Share Posted February 4, 2011 The sun is getting low so I am starting to get some serious lens flare. Lawrence is back up with the Battle of the Sexes contest: The 2 finalists for the Women's dance-off: The Women's finalist vs. the Men's finalist - Lawrence shows them what to do: The audience loves it: And the guy wins (by acclamation):
dodger501 Posted February 4, 2011 Author #94 Share Posted February 4, 2011 Here is an HDR from outside the casino. Again, camera sitting on table, propped up: That's it, thought I had more but no. Kelly has an image of all 8 of us at Table 556 in the MDR, I am trying to get it from her and post here.
dodger501 Posted February 4, 2011 Author #95 Share Posted February 4, 2011 I can't believe this is over! Debarkation was its usual semi-chaos but for us it went smoothly. We took the Carnival shuttle to the airport. What is she so happy about? This is what awaits us: Karen schmoozes up the pilot . . . what is she up to? We are over the Great White North now: What the . . . ?!? Is this who is flying our plane? No problem, she's got it completely under control: Another good customer service story, from Delta Airlines, of all places. First the crew allowed her to sit in the left seat. The captain even offered to let her wear his hat. He gave her a couple of pilots wing pins to give to the kids. As we were about to leave, I realized I lost my lens cap. Back to our seat we went and I, along with half the flight crew including the head attendant, were on our hands and knees looking for the cap. It was found, all was well. This was our 4th cruise, all Carnival, and far and away our best! Being with a group helped, so did the great weather and all-around decent luck. I bought a FCC on this trip and intend to use it on our next one which will be the Miracle Southern Caribbean on Jan 29, 2012. This will celebrate mine & Karen's 20th year together, we can't wait. We did this itinerary our first cruise on the Destiny and have always wanted to go back. And this is an 8-day'er to boot! That's all I got, unless that dining room inage shows up. If you want to see all of my pictures, go to the link in my sig, below. Thank you all for reading and we'll see you on the ship!
PoofyTheCat Posted February 4, 2011 #96 Share Posted February 4, 2011 I sure hope that I get to be the first to say at the finale of your review, that your review is by far the best one ever! Maybe it has something to do with the fact that we were apart of the Looneys. Either way, fantastic pictures, fantastic narration, and I truly thank you so much for your hard work before, during, and after the cruise with your photography expertise and digital artwork (the door signs). Take care Dodger, and I hope that Andy and I (Mimi) will be able to cruise on the same vessel with you and Mrs. Dodger (Karen)... she photographs so well and is so beautiful in person too! :)

I have a "Canon T1i for Dummies" book I'm going to break out and do some reading up on. I really need to get the hang of my camera. Off I go to look at the rest of your pics.
