NCL newbie - excursion prices drop?

Hello! I was wondering if there's a benefit to waiting until we are on board to book a shore excursion, as it relates to cost? Meaning, does the price go down as it gets closer on the ship? I'm aware they can sell out. I'm wondering specifically about whether prices might improve.

Thank you!

Have not seen them drop in price but also have not been on that many cruises.

I always try and find private excursions recommended here or Trip Advisor to book which often saves money and gets you a better excursion.

Many worry about getting left behind if not booked with the cruise ship but that is mainly a ploy by cruise lines to scare you into using their excursions.
