Transalantic Cruise on Celebrity in May of 2011

We are consider a cross alantic cruise in May and were wondering what to expect with the water, waves, etc on a crossing.

Unfortunately there is really no way to predict what kind of weather you are going to hit on any particular cruise. We did a transatlantic in 2005 on RCL's Jewel of the Seas and had great weather for most of the cruise but hit a storm the captain explained he just couldn't find a way around. We had 65 MPH winds and 40-45 waves starting late one evening and continuing into the next morning. Then we broke through the storm front and had smooth sailing the rest of way to our first stop in Europe at Lisbon.

 

You didn't mention where you cruise was leaving from or going to. The more northern the route across the Atlantic in general the more likely to have slightly rougher conditions. But again it all depends on the weather the week you are doing the crossing.

 

I guess my opinion if that is the cruise you want to take you book it and take your chances.

As the previous poster said, there is no way to tell. It is akin to asking what the weather will be like in the U.S. in May. Depending on what part of the U.S. the weather will be completely different and there is no way to tell far in advance what it will be like in any one spot. Same with the Atlantic; the weather will vary quite a bit in different parts of the Atlantic and there is no way to predict far in advance what any one area will be like. Temperatures may range from chilly to hot and waves from flat to 50 feet. The more southernly the route, the more likely (on average) of smaller seas and warmer weather.
