We had room 10500, penthouse with large balcony - really felt like you are by yourself on the ship - very quiet - just occasional noise from the bridge right above us - you can get ear plugs, free at the reception desk - if gets too noisy, but it was never a problem - we had a very windy night and the ship was moving a lot, but it felt so good to sleep with that moving... The hot tubs in the front is part of the crew's deck, but the only ones we saw using it was the actors from the broadway style show. We loved it so much , was hard to leave...

BTW, that windy wavy night, was lots of noise from the wind coming thru the door and the reason was that it wasn't closed tight enough - and the noise was gone. A couple times I woke up thinking we were having a earthquake... we had gale winds 9 and waves up to 8 feet... I guess its a lot... I just googled and it means about 50 MPH winds. I bearly could stand up outside on the balcony... and to open that heavy door... I guess we had a great time... Joel was worried and went out in the great atrium to see if everything was laright... I slept thru all that... :)

Love the photos! Thanks!! :D We are leaving on March 19 on the Star! Cannot wait! Question...the photos on the beach...where was that and did you walk there from the pier and how much was it (if there was a cost) I have never been to Mexico and wondering how the whole beach thing works! Thanks!

I can help with some of your questions. The first beach pictures look like Medano Beach at Cabo. You can walk there from the tender dock in about 20 to 30 minutes or take a water taxi and get there inabout 10 minutes for around 3 dollars per person. You will probably get wet getting out of the water taxi. Land taxis will also take you there but I don't know the rates. The bars and restaurants will let you use their loungers if you buy food and/or drinks. Just to use the beach, there is no charge anywhere in Mexico.

We loved our cabin, we couldn't wait to go back everytime we were out/ off the ship. I submitted my review to cruisecritic. The pizza was at La Cucina on the ship - contrary to several reports we read, it surprised us with really good food. Tha pizza was deliciously crispy and thin - the cheese was a little weired. Our fav was the smoked salmon pizza. Warning, the portions at La Cucina are really huge - while the other restaurants serve smaller size, which makes fun to order several items from the menu. So on our first time trying la Cucina, we had too much food - 2 appetizers, salads, pizza, pasta carbonara, ossobuco and pork salimbocca - and dessert...:)

My partner and I are booked on our first NCL cruise, sailing on the Star in December. Very interested in your views of the restaurants and suite perks. (We are booked in a Penthouse Suite with Balcony, SG, on deck 12)
We visited all the suites of the 12th before leaving the ship last saturday - they are very spacious, beautiful, and comfy. You'll loveit.

This our first cruise ever and my first time to Mexico. All I can say is that it was fantastic, we loved so much, we are already looking into booking our next one - either Alaska or Greek Islands in the falll. I found the best deal for this cruise thru cruise compete, and ended with crown cruises. First had booked an AFT penthouse , but ended up rebooking an fwd penthouse. I loved the layout of the 10500 and 10000, it has additional seating area, and still have nice balcony, and also plenty of shady or sunny areas. Getting to the LA port was easy, since we live in Pasadena - in about 30 minutes we had already dispatched the bags( we tipped 1 US per bag) with a porter and parked the car. It was a zoo - huge lines, because something got delayed with the ships arrival earlier that morning. The VIP status doesn’t start until you go thru the security check, and then you find your line to check in. The VIP line wasn’t long, but it took almost 40 minutes to do the check in - there was just one agent, and of course, everyone ahead of us had , questions, requests, who knows what... They check you passport, get you CC that you going to have the onboard charges on, take your pic . Then the agent escorts you to Patricks desk (concierge) and he gives you an welcome package with your keys, and there is an waiting area with chairs and some finger sandwiches, cookies and beverages. In a few minutes we were also greeted by our butler, Orlando, who took us thru the front of the line and then to Cagneys for lunch. We brought 6 bottles of wine, and is when you go thru the security that they take you and your wine to a desk where you can choose to pay corkage or have it stored tiil the end of the trip. I was amazed seiing all the stuff that people try to bring aboard. We were aware of the 15 dollars corkage fee and a little stamp is placed on each bottle and you can take onboard, and drink it anywhere you wish, including at all restaurants of the ship. After lunch we made our way to our cabin, and we met Ruth our stewardess. Our cabin was great, amazing to be on the front of the ship - so quiet - it really feels like you are the only one while sailing. In the cabin we found a fulll bottle of Champagne, a bottle of red house wine, courtesy of crown cruises, our 250 US$ OBC certificates, fresh fruit, a plate of beautiful canapes. Also the suite has a fresh flowesr arrangement on the coffee table. The room is impecabbly clean, and so is all around the ship. We requested to have 2 of the 4 dining room chairs removed to have more space, sin ce we are just 2, and also asked to have the refrigerator emptied for our diet cokes(those were in the checked luggage) and the white wine. The cabin also has nice wine glasses, and also a very nice espresso LAVAZZA machine, with an assortment of coffee and tea pods .Some of our luggage was already waiting for us at our door. The ship set sail about 5 - an hour late. Our immediate help was fantastic and they make sure they know your name, and greet you all the time, ask about your day, diner plans. Patrick helped us with reservations, and came himself to our cabin to welcome us onboard. Orlando figured that the grapes were my favorite to snack on, and all of the sudden we had a big bowl of it. And I also when ordering breakfast, ordered items off the menu and they were delivered as ordered. One morning I asked for carrot cake and Orlando couldn’t get it because is just available for lunch at Cagneys. I told him that I was just testing the services, as a joke, and by that afternoon we had 4 huge pieces of carrot cake waiting for us in our room. Food - breakfast in cabin - great - white cloth, however you get better items at cagneys, and it doesn’t matter haw fast thy run to bring you food in you cabin, is never hot - always towards warm... Breakfast at Cagneys was great, and I checked the buffet out, and it had a huge variety of everything. We had lunch at Cagneys and my favorite was the seared tuna burger, and the brownie a la mode was great as well. We also had one lunch at the buffet, and they toss a great caesar salad, and the indian food is very good as well - we aren’t fans of the cafeteria setting - howevcer the views are gorgeous. WE tryed Cagneys for dinner, and also went twice to La Cucina - loved the antipasto and thin crust crispy pizza, pork saltimbocca as well. The Asian Fusion sucked big time, and we had also one night a Versailles and other at Acqua , and one night we were undecisive what to eat, and we got a couple dishes to go from Versailles . The ice cream at the ice cream stand was tasteless, and the soft serve of the buffet is not too attractive. Our fav desserts were the brownies a la mode a Cagneys, and the tiramisu La cucina. It was sure nice to be able to have VIP tender tickets in Cabo . I had booked a couple sightseeing tours for Mazatlan and PV, but last minute I decided just to do our own thing - walk around , and then fins a beach to sit and have some drinks and lunch - I didn’t care much for Cabo, really liked Mazatlan (visiting the Mercado Municipal was one of my favorites) and PV. No matter where we got on a taxi, we ended up at the Diamonds International store... The sailing was smooth going south, a little rougher crossing from Cabo to Mazatlan, but on the way back from PV we had very rough and extremely windy, I could bearly stay standing on our balcony. I loved the ship moves, and I slept like a stone - btw, if you are light sleeper , the front desk have ear plugs if by chance need a pair (free). We had 2 for one martinis almost every night at the Star Bar, from 5:30 to 8:00pm - about 5 bucks for each. we didn’t go to any show, we loved so much our cabin... and we are late diners - 8 or 8:30 - that also helped not to wait in lines - people would be lined up at 5 pm for the main dining rooms. I bought the pass for the spa for the week, and went almost every evening after sunset, before martinis and dinner. I also put a 250 dollars deposit for a future cruise and got 100 credit on our onboard account. WelI ,can’t reccomend enough our cabin. Yesterday morning before leaving the ship, Orlando took us to see the new cabins on the 12th, and the owner suites with 2 balconies (Picasso and Van Gogh - our favorite of the 2) - and also saw the penthouses next to us, with the larger balcony(but the interior is less spacious than 10500 or 10000). The new suites on the 12th are beautiful, the ones in the fwd center have 2 bedrooms and the ones on the on the sides are on bedroom and are gorgeous - perfect for a cold weather cruise. The family suites are huge as well with a convertible soga and a murphy bed , and the new penthouses are also beautiful, with a side balcony with chairs. Can’t wait to go back on the STAR.

Thanks for posting your great review. We are booked in one of the family suites in March for 4 women - can you say "slumber party" but are getting nervous about only 1 bathroom. Glad to hear you liked the suites. The 4 owner suites in the front deck 12- did you like the 2 middle ones with the extra bathroom or the wing suites better and why? I'm foolishly hoping someone will get upgraded and one will open up for us. What else didn't you share about the Star, that we should know about? Thanks!
