bluechair Posted February 8, 2011 #1 Share Posted February 8, 2011 Has anyone gone to Long Bay Beach and did you enjoy yourselves. Also do you remember how long it was from the pier to the beach.
mcmarya Posted February 8, 2011 #2 Share Posted February 8, 2011 Long Bay was our favorite beach--beautiful sand and water, no vendors, quiet, some shade, snorkeling available. Don't know what the taxi cost is as we actually took the bus. This entails quite a bit of walking and perhaps some waiting but doable. Chair rentals are available on the public part of the beach and it looked like also from the Long Bay beach hotel. I believe the restaurant at the hotel is open. At the other end of the beach is the Grand Pineapple resort.
JoPublic Posted February 9, 2011 #3 Share Posted February 9, 2011 Hi We spend the day at Long Bay beach and loved it. Snorkled for a few hours, saw a barracude, snake eels and plenty of other fish. Was good for our sons 13 and 11. We shared a taxi with others on another cruise ship can't remember the cost. We had all our own kit, not sure if you could rental snorkle gear at the beach. Chairs for hire were not too expensive either. KR Jo Has anyone gone to Long Bay Beach and did you enjoy yourselves. Also do you remember how long it was from the pier to the beach. ike97756 Posted February 10, 2011 #4 Share Posted February 10, 2011 (edited) Our favorite beach as well. Very relaxed and not too crowded when we there. No pushy sales but there are booths you could buy from. You can rent anything you would need for the water there if you wanted from jet ski's , snorkel equipment to a boat ride out to a close by reef. We just relaxed on the beach, had some drinks from the bar and snorkeled off the beach ( saw lots of fish). Would have liked to stay longer but we had shared a cab with another couple and their daughter who wanted to get back to port. Cab is $26 one way divided among passengers. You can have them return to pick you up or just get a ride there and take one of the cabs that are always around to get back at your convenience. It was about a 20 minute drive Edited February 10, 2011 by ike97756

Just asking since we love to snorkel-looks like the place for us and our two boys. Thanks!

mcmarya Posted February 28, 2011 #8 Share Posted February 28, 2011 To snorkel, we headed off to the right (facing the water) and worked our way out. Since it was not super calm that day we did not go out too far. The visibility was not super as there is sand in the gaps in the coral. It is a little tricky to get back out if the tide is out but there are "channels" in the coral. I have attached some pictures to get an idea of what we saw. Unfortunately, I have a pretty lousy camera so it does not do the underwater scenery justice.

mcmarya Posted March 12, 2011 #14 Share Posted March 12, 2011 The restaurant appeared to be opened but we did not need food/drink so didn't pay too much attention.
mcmarya Posted March 12, 2011 #15 Share Posted March 12, 2011 Looking at their website, it looks like they may be closed. But, there is a contact e-mail if you want to know for sure. Not sure what else is available food-wise as I think the Grand Pineapple resort is an all-inclusive.

Believe the Long Bay Beach Hotel is closed...probably the restaurant too. The Grand Pineapple is all-inclusive. Could have opted for a one day pass...at a cost of about $60pp. The tour costs less...and we'll get to see more of the island. Based on all...we will hit this beach after touring with Lawrence of Antigua. Rather than spending the entire day at the beach. We may bring lunch with us from the ship...that way we can avoid that cost and avoid the need for a restaurant. Thanks for all your help... FOLcruisers Posted January 10, 2017 #19 Share Posted January 10, 2017 Did you snorkel at Long Bay we are wanting to go in March Sent from my iPad using Forums We did go to Long Bay in November. The beach was nice and the weather was great but the sea was very rough and churned up. The water was a lovely color and temp but cloudy from all the sand. There appeared to be an area to the left that would have been ok for snorkeling under the right circumstances. We didn't try because the water was too rough and we felt it wouldn't be safe. There is a restaurant, the food was just ok. Chairs under shade for two was about 10.00, they had a special that included a bucket of beer but we don't drink beer so paid as we went for sodas and food. Service was fine, not too crowded, there are people walking by selling their wares but walked on when you said no thanks. We would go back there again. Sent from my iPad using Forums The cost was about $30-$35 for two of us round trip. We arranged for the driver that dropped us off to pick us up. If you give them a time they will be there.
