Luggage Express

Is Delta on the list? If so how do you let them know that as a Delta Skymiles AMEX card holder gets 1 bag free per person booked in reservation? Anyone have a similar experience?

There is a place on the luggage express form to mark that you do not have to pay the Delta fee for the luggage as your credit card allows free baggage.

I just did this with our HAL cruise in December. I'm a Delta Skymiles holder as well....The cruiseline billed us on our sail and sign card for our bags...I went to the front desk to tell them I don't pay for the bags because of the skymiles credit card...they said I'd have to call the airlines. So the more I thought about it, when I got home, I called the cruiseline and explained the situation and what the front desk told me. They said they should have taken it off. It's not the airline charging me, it was the cruiseline. So they took the charge off. But only after I called about it. All in all, it is still worth it. :-) Happy Cruising.

Just used same service on Princess last week after our Panama Canal trip. It was wonderful not to have to lug the bags around and we had an early flight and made it without any difficulties. The only thing is that Princess also charged my ss card even though I explained to them that my bags would not have a charge. After reading above post, I'm gonna give them a call and see about getting the $50 back. Thanks

We used the service on the Miracle last week, and loved it! Had a little mixup initially in that all the boarding passes weren't delivered to us but a quick trip to the guest service desk fixed that. We normally leave with the VIP group but were told we had to wait until group 5 left the ship but that meant we were able to enjoy a leisurely breakfast in the Bacchus dining room so we didn't mind. Our only concern was that there were not tags for the connecting flight, we were assured that they would be applied at the airport, and they were all all bags arrived at the proper airports without any problems.

I will definately do it again, great value for $20 a person plus airline bag fees, it was nice to avoid gathering the bags as we debarked, look for a porter to haul it out to transportation and in our case keep it with us for hours, we had late flights out of FLL and the airport usually won't allow you to check your bags until 4 hours before your flight!

What time did group 5 get you off the ship? We are doing the Miracle next month.

We just got off the Valor on Sunday and used luggage express for the first time. As previous posters have said, it is well worth the $20 per person. It takes just a little planning since you do have to have your bags out before midnight and you will not see them until you arrive at your destination. Just make sure you keep what you need with you in the room. We flew United and the other couple we sailed with few American. They also had no issues with it.

About 9 I would say, but there were alot of people that felt entitled to leave before their assigned times were called thus slowing it all down for the people that should have been leaving. We also saw a number of people that were self assist that were supposed to have left at 7:30 in our line, dragging along alot of luggage making it a slow process. And to add to the whole situation, just as we were about to debark (literally the next 4 people to go off) we had to be stopped for a while, maybe 10 minutes because of congestion in the luggage area - goes back to my first statement about people leaving before their time! Plus there had been an emergency outside and there was emergency vehicles dealing with the situation - which was a very good reason to be delayed and we didn't mind that in the least.

We probably could have left a little sooner, the times listed in the Funtime was 8:30-8:50am approx. for group 4/5 but we took our time with breakfast and they called our number just as we were picking up our carryons from our cabin so it took a few minutes to get to the debarking line that had formed.

We were still at the airport by 9:30am, which I thought was pretty good.

i just got off the liberty on saturday. southwest does not use luggage express, at least that's what guest services on the ship told us

Out of Fort Lauderdale? That's where we used it on the Freedom. Were you in Miami?

We used luggage express in San Juan and it was great. We are going on the Dream does anyone know if Southwest participates in luggage express?

Thanks.

Just got off the Miracle today, and Southwest IS on the Luggage Express list. I second the "best $20 I spent" replies. Easy peasy.

Also, we kept one of our small bags that we planned to check, with us when we dismebarked. Small bag that we put our "beauty" products in. This way you have it all when getting ready in the morning of disembarkation. It already had the luggage tag on it, so we just handed the bag to the Southwest curb guy in Ft. Lauderdale. He quickly checked our ID, to make sure it was our bag, and we were on our way. Only took an extra 5 minutes, and the bag is small enough that it's almost like a large purse, so easy to take off the ship.

If available on your ship and/or airline, I highly recommend going this route. Used it on our last 3 cruises and haven't had a problem yet.

We had some issues using it on the Miracle as well. We signed up for it but were given zone 4 luggage tags. Went to ask at Guest Services if we would be able to do self debarkation even though we were given zone 4 tags. Told sure no problem.

So the ship starts to debark with the self assist. As we are about 100 feet from the gangway our names get announced to go to guest services. So after standing in line there to get to the front we are told we have to take a seat in the lobby and someone would be with us. Well turns out DW and I and maybe 4 other couples that were using luggage express were chosen for special customs inspection so we had to sit there about 45 minutes before everyone showed up since the group had to go off together.

We are to be escorted by someone from guest services. So I go to get off the ship and they see we only have a couple carryons and they start giving me a hard time thinking I really shouldn't be doing self assist.

Then I explain I am part of luggage express then they say that luggage express hasn't been cleared yet.:rolleyes:

I explain I am part of a group chosen for special inspection and we are being escorted by the guy in the white outfit and hat as I point to him, and they finally let me scan my card.

It was nice getting to skip past all the people in the long lines by that point as we were escorted to a special customs section but sure was getting the stink eye. :p

So I'm still not sure if I would have been able to do self debark or not with this program if we hadn't been chosen for inspection and in the end it turned out ok.

One of our pieces of luggage had an overweight tag put on it (which is BS since I weigh it with a digital scale I bring) so after customs inspected our luggage we moved a couple things and removed the over weight tag. :p

same thing happened to us on the Vaor in September. I am just getting out of the shower and the phone rings saying we must vacate our room immediately and get off the ship now.

Everyone we asked would tell us nothing.

After they searched our luggae, our carryon and my wifes pocketbook, and answered questions about our customs declaration we were free to go.

Still off the ship very early but shook me up at first.

i guess guest services on the liberty was not very truthful then about southwest not participating in luggage express. errrrr

We would like to use this service in April on Miracle.

Am I reading right that you have to go to a special area to disembark?? Ex: the theater or something? I thought we just said good bye to our bags and disembarked according to the color we receive:confused:

Two in our group have a very early flight home and were just going to get off the ship ASAP. We wanted to linger a bit as we have a late flight home.

We also got off the Valor last Sunday. :D

The main reason we didn't do the luggage express was because of toiletries. Everything you keep with you has to go in carry-on and none of my face stuff is small enough to meet the size limit for TSA liquid carryon.

Something for everyone to consider about the service. We decided self-assist was a better fit for us.

Remember, you are charged per bag by CCL in addition to whatever bag fees your airline charges.

DH has so many miles with Delta that he gets two checked bags free.

They might have been telling you the truth. I'm not positive on this but I assume SWA doesn't participate out of Miami because of the distance to FLL. I also don't think they do it from Cape Cananveral. Anybody know?

i'll be on the miracle next year out of ft lauderdale and i am sooo using luggage express!!!!! :D who knows what the deal was with the liberty/southwest/luggage express on saturday. oh well.....

On the luggage express sheets, SWA is not listed as a participating airline. We docked in Miami, so I don't know if that makes a difference or not.
