BethV114 Posted February 16, 2011 #1 Share Posted February 16, 2011 We'll be 3 adults traveling with DD, 18 months, while in Grand Cayman next month. We would like to do the Atlantis Seaworld Observatory (we think DD would do better with that than the sub), the Turtle Farm and possibly stop by the Tortuga Rum Cake Factory (which we understand is near the Turtle Farm). Does anyone have any recommendations on private tour operators that would be able to something like this for us? I know we could book a similar tour through Celebrity for about $65 per adult (DD looks like she'd be free), but then we're stuck in a large group and on someone else's timetable, which may not work that well with DD. We'll most likely do it on our own and use a taxi between the Turtle Farm and the port, but wanted to see how much more it would cost just to have someone to take us around for the day, instead. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The water is shallow and you can hold the baby during the stingray part. You won't be disapointed and they have agreat boat and do not over sell like the ships excursions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kADRJmILCB0

VRRoom Posted February 16, 2011 #4 Share Posted February 16, 2011 Thanks for the tip, but DH absolutely insists that we go nowhere near stingrays after the Steve Erwin incident. Does anyone out there have any other private tour recommendations? Steve Irwin was an idiot. They were filming in an enclosed area, had one stingray (a bull ray, not what is in the Caymans) in a group of about 6 that he was supposed to jump onto which had no barb, but he jumped on the wrong one. Plus, instead of leaving the barb in place, which would have self-cauterized the wound due to the type of venom, he yanked it out, leaving a gaping hole in his heart. The only stings that happen in the Caymans are self-impalements from idiots flailing about in the shallow water and slapping a foot or hand into the end of a barb. The rays are completely tame and seem to really love the attention, as long as they're getting their squid. Otherwise, they swim away. That said, I don't think I'd take my 18-month old into the water, more because of some of the humans and their stupidity than the rays.

BethV114 Posted February 16, 2011 Author #6 Share Posted February 16, 2011 Seriously, any recommendations that are not stingray related? I just don't think that taking 18 month old DD to on that type of an excursion is a good idea, regardless of the reasoning behind it. Thanks! cruisemainiac Posted February 16, 2011 #7 Share Posted February 16, 2011 One more thing about the Rays. I think they should have a good season but I'm not sure they'll make to the world series this year(just kidding). Try http://www.caymanislands.ky/, http://grandcaymancruiseexcursions.com/GrandCaymanIslandsTour.htm. Have fun and watch the sun.
knbcruisers Posted February 17, 2011 #8 Share Posted February 17, 2011 Have you considered renting a car and driving yourself? You could get a jeep for about $90 or a regular car for less than that. That way you would be able to make your own schedule. GC is pretty small, with only a few main roads. Check out caymanautorentals dot com, they have a location right near the tender pier.
