Beach Snorkeling: St. Kitts? Grenada?

Recommended Posts

In St. Kitts go to Shipwreck Beach. It is easy to get to by cab, and there are always plenty of cabs there with which to come back. It is not a big, wide sandy beach from the tourist brochures, neither is there a picturesque stand of coral in the water. However, there are limestone shelves and rocks which attract a very nice number and variety of fish. The snorkeling starts almost at water's edge; entry is very easy. When we were there (2-3 times in the course of a week's trip), there was the very mildest current which swept gently along the shore. You can ride it as long as you wish and then easily get out and walk back. There is a decent, casual restaurant/bar that serves good lunches and has chairs and umbrellas for rent.

The Marriott, where we were staying, supposedly has good snorkeling, but strong, onshore winds kept us from even thinking about trying it.

Shorefolks, snorkeling aside, did you enjoy the beach at the Marriott or South Friar's better? Thanks!

Anyone have any info on beach snorkeling in Grenada?

Sorry for the delay; I missed your post. When we were at the Marriott, the wind was so strong that we could not use the beach for other than a brisk morning stroll- certainly not to lie in the sun. When not at South Friar's or touring the island, we spent our time by the fairly large pool.

However, if the wind were not a factor, I would think the Marriott beach would be quite enjoyable. I would still like to try the snorkeling there sometime.
