Eclipse - Disembarkation Tip.........

We were assigned a 6:55AM meeting time in the Eclipse Theater for disembarkation. Since we had a 12:30 PM Flight from Miami Airport, we disregarded the meetup, went to breakfast and exited the ship at 7:30AM from deck 5. No line for disembarkation, quickly got our bags and headed off to the bus (we had Celebrity transfers) and were at the airport by 8:30AM.

NCL beats Celebrity for disembarkation, you can stay in your room until your disembarkation time is called. Couldn't see how people with wheeled carry on luggage could meet in the Eclipse Theater with steps and no way to get your luggage into the rows of the theater.

Having said that, the rest of the cruise was fabulous.

self-disembark on our cruise ending Feb 5 was at 6:30. There were 2 gangways. The one near the Theatre was used for all but international guests were directed back to the one by Bistro on 5. There was not anyone indicating international passengers should not be in that main line and we waited there for a few minutes. But self-disembark was easy.

On our sailing we disembarked right behind the center elevator bank which I guess is near Bistro on 5.

Would never use the Celebrity transfer again, no advantage over taking a taxi. About the same price and we had to wait 30 minutes when we arrived in Miami for the bus and on the way back, we were dropped off with our bags, about a city block from curbside check-in.

Here's one other thing to keep in mind when debarking the Eclipse in Miami. Our paperwork said to be on time for your group and bags. Here's why. They use a luggage carousel system to get bags to the passengers. They don't just stack all the bags in one huge area by number. So when you get to your luggage carousel, only your bags are on it. At some point they start adding another group of luggage with another number. So if you are late, your bags will be mixed in with another group or removed and set aside in an area next to the carousel.

We were assigned the 6:55 disembarkation time too. Since we are local and had a 9:30 pick-up scheduled, we asked to have this changed. We were told that all guests were to be out of their staterooms by 8:30. We also decided to keep our luggage with us and had no problem doing self disembarkation at 8:30. ;)

We got off the Eclipse on Feb. 18th in Miami. We selected the 8:30 a.m. disembarkation time. We went to the theatre a little early and were told they had already called our number so they were running early. We had plenty of time to have a nice breakfast before leaving. We carried only our carry ons and went to the carrousel for our group number. Our bags appeared within a few minutes. We took the bags to the customs where there were no lines and we were through in less than 5 minutes. We went outside to find the taxi line had an officer helping get the right size taxis for each group. There were four of us with 8 pieces of luggage so he got us a van. The driver was very nice even though we were only going 3 miles to pick up a rental car. We felt Celebrity was excellent in their embarkation and disembarkation.

We had the self disembarkation for our trip and met at the theater also, but we didn't have to go into the theater with luggage (doors were closed) but line up outside it as the disembarkation exit was right there. Made it in plenty of time for our 11:50 flight out of Fort Lauderdale.
