dogandcatlover Posted February 22, 2011 #1 Share Posted February 22, 2011 New to NCL - a few questions regarding balcony dividers on the Pearl: 1. Do they open between side-to-side rooms? 2. How do they open and do they lay back against the wall? 3. How do you determine which cabins have balconies that open together? 4. What is the procedure to get these dividers open once on board? BEACHBARB Posted February 22, 2011 #2 Share Posted February 22, 2011 I sent an e-mail to NCL over the weekend to ask this question about the Dawn and they left me a message yesterday saying NO balcony dividers can be opened on any of their ships. I know this is not true as I've seen pictures on this site of balcony dividers open on not only the Dawn but other ships as well. I think they may have a new policy about NOT opening them for safety reasons. I'm bummed as we have 4 cabins together and was really hoping to have the dividers opened - may bring a leatherman tool as I've read that works or maybe a bribe to the stateroom stewart but he could get in trouble if it's against policy. dogandcatlover Posted February 22, 2011 Author #3 Share Posted February 22, 2011 Wow BeachBarb - That's not good news. Sharing a balcony with our friends has always been a big part of our cruise experience. I have not booked yet, but I may look elsewhere if this turns out to be true. Please keep me posted if your hear anything different.
odblnt Posted February 23, 2011 #4 Share Posted February 23, 2011 There is a difference between CAN the doors open and WILL they open them. The doors can be opened for maintenance work while in port, but are not normally allowed to be open just for the guests.
Why Knot Me Posted February 23, 2011 #5 Share Posted February 23, 2011 Our room steward has opened them every time, no problem.
BEACHBARB Posted February 24, 2011 #6 Share Posted February 24, 2011 There is a picture somewhere on these boards of the lock so you can see what type of tool you may need if they won't open them and you want to try to do it yourself. I'm hoping a bribe will work - we don't sail till 2/5/12. Since it's not a new policy you have to assume it's always been their policy but not always adhered to. Fingers crossed. I'm still searching for that picture - heard a leatherman tool works.
