cruisin'tex Posted March 2, 2011 #2 Share Posted March 2, 2011 Can anyone update me on activation of the new Houston Cruise Terminal? The construction has been complete for a couple of years, but no ships. Thanks.:o Nope, still no cruise ships going from there. Was told that after completion it would take a couple or so years to get a cruise line (back) there. Most lines contract years in advance with ports. After Hurricane Ike, we took a Carnival Cruise from there instead of the usual departure port of Galveston. That was due to the widespread destruction in Galveston. The biggest draw-back to cruising out of Houston is the length of time it takes just getting through the Houston Ship Channel to the Gulf of Mexico. caddyrag Posted March 2, 2011 #3 Share Posted March 2, 2011 The trip from Houston terminal to open water is shorter than the trip from the New Orleans port.

Not sure why people think the trip from Houston is LONG to the open water. I have sailed that trip down the mighty Miss.....it IS long:rolleyes:
