I honestly don't care what other people wear, and probably wouldn't care to "know" anyone who would judge me by my clothing!

That said, the woman at our table on our last Sensation cruise who basically had her breasts lying on the table (and on my husband's arm) was a bit much to take, even for 3 nights! LOL!

So long as everything that should be is tucked away... I don't care what you wear! :D
You are such a wonderful wife to allow your husband to use his arm as a 'breast rest' for 3 nights. How thoughtful and considerate of you. :)
IMHO it's more of a respect thing. Or lack thereof.

There are those here who remember formal dinners and participant's pride in attending. It was an event. Now it's more like going to McDonalds...

YMMV
I absolutely agree - it is a respect thing. Respect for others and self-respect.
And probably alot of people who have no idea what is appropriate clothing in different settings.

YUP! And to me, it shows a complete and utter lack of class and/or decency. Really, people!
Do you go to the MDR to eat or see a fashion show ??? Its like the chicken or the steak they really don't care if you are having red or white wine with it. But you have some people that do.
The same thing with people that get all in a knot over people who change their clothes after dinner to go to the show or the casino.

You are going to see a show. You take your seat , in a few minutes they turn the house lights down and a nice show starts. What are you worried about what the guy three rows up is wearing?

Watch the damn show
then you certainly wouldn`t mind eating in a restaurant with four gray walls, no art, and a florescent light.
It wouldn't bother me at all. As long as the food is good, the place is clean and the service is good, and I am with people i enjoy being with having a good time

A Picasso on the wall, Wedgewood china and Baccarat crystal on the table do not make my food taste any better or worse than what the person at the next table is wearing.
I don't appreciate all the people that want to walk around in flip flops, shorts in the dinning room, swim suits and not sitting on a towel.

This is my vacation, and every time people are out trying to spoil my cruise.

I don't want to see your toes unless you are coming out of the pool!
I don't want to sit in your wet spot in the lounge!
I don't want to see your a-- when you walk down the hall with a towel over your shoulder! (unless you are really hot)
I don't want to see you in blue jeans, and a golf shirt on formal night (or what ever it is called today)

I want to have my vacation, and everyone should do what I am wanting and thinking, in my mind of what a GREAT VACATION is.

Or I am going to come on CC and complain about all of you, and your kids who were sitting on the stairs and would not move.
This has nothing to do with your post, but your siggie

"$2.00 bills are ok by me,

Two Buck Chuck!"

Are you from Land O Lakes, FL per chance? The nudists here use $2 bills to shop as a way of demonstrating their impact on the economy! LMAO

I wonder where they keep their wallets to hold those a$2 bills?

Besides you pay much more for those gray walls and florescent lights now called "Minimalist". The meal is automatically 5 times the amount they were as soon as they remove the paintings. lol

We stayed in a Minimalist hotel in China with glass walls...in the bathroom. Now I am not complaining but I thought that might be taking minimum to a maximum. :D

I will admit only to you and you must keep this a secret, I did hang a BA from the glass walled bathroom. I am not sure but I suspect that is why my DH has decided that perhaps real walls in bathrooms are a must in the future. But I could be wrong... ha ha
I dont get why people make such a HUGEEE deal over what to wear, what flips flops are "okay to wear", etc. I understand if youre going to formal night or whatever and want to dress up, but some people stresss out way too much over what clothes to pack..its called a VACATION. of course you shouldnt wear a bathing suit with no footwear..but people shouldnt be that concerned over what others are wearing...like i said obviously some things are inappropriate (bathing suit, no shirt, etc)...but after ive read some threads, some people need to take a deep breath.
Looks like you are really worried about it. Do you wear flops to MDR and need some support?

In fact, it does make food taste better. Just as food nicely arranged on the plate with a bit of a flourish makes food taste better. Otherwise, why not just dish it into a pile of this and a pile of that and say it tastes as good. Studies have shown that presentation does make a difference.

What concerns me is how people act in the MDR. And people who look like they are going to play basketball are going to act differently than people dressed for a formal dinner. Dress up people and they tend to remember their manners and social niceties and it changes the atmosphere. People at a BBQ act different than those at a 4 star restaurant- yes?
I know many people disagree with me on this, but to me, when people dress decently in the MDR, it makes the whole atmosphere so much classier and more elegant. I eat in the MDR to have a reasonably fancy dinner, and it kind of ruins it when a family strolls in with shorts and flip-flops. Just my opinion...[/quote]

Have you not considered one of the cruise lines that are more formal and strict
with their dress codes?

I'm assuming you've never been to a State dinner.

YES. It does make a difference. It's called ambiance. It's the difference between Ruth Chris and Sizzler.

Yep. I used to serve tea on occasion at dinner when my kids were young. With the china tea pot and good cups. Amazing the difference in behavior. Ambiance.

The quality of the food, the cuts of meat, the ingredients is the difference between Ruth's Chris and Sizzler.

Yes all that fancy stuff makes a nice atmosphere , its pretty to look at. But if the food is subpar, it is still subpar.

Wrong...the difference between "Ruth's" Chris and Sizzler is the cut of beef and price. It has nothing to do with the ambiance. You could waltz into Ruth's Chris in flip flops and t-shirts and the meal will still be superb. Sizzler's is basically a buffet.

Presentation on a plate has been proven to increase one's eagerness to try/eat the food, however, there is no correlation to the food actually being/tasting better.

And I must admit that some of these comments have made me giggle out loud. Seriously. I just can't imagine equating someone showing me respect with how they dress. Now be clear, I'm not speaking of that woman/man who comes in with their underwear showing or their breasts falling out of their shirt (literally). I typically pity those people because they disrespect themselves. I'm talking about the average Joe on a cruise who has on a pair of jeans and a polo with flip flops or a woman in nice jeans with a pretty top and sandals. I just don't view this as showing "me" respect one way or the other, nor do I equate it with class. I actually find it truly funny that anyone equates dress with class. Seriously? Or are you pulling our leg...

The biggest difference of all is the price. :p

There are, in fact, a number of dives across America that serve some of the best food. So keep chuckin' those peanut shells.

Awesome, Sarg! I must admit, I rarely eat meat...but, that's looks pretty good! :p

I watch Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives on the Food Network sometimes, and I've seen things on there that would make Ruth's Chris chefs cry with envy! And they weren't overpriced, nor overdressed simply to impress the stranger beside them. I prefer to judge someone by their character and interior as opposed to their impressions and exterior. Just sayin... ;)
