slimknyzer Posted March 13, 2011 #51 Share Posted March 13, 2011 Think about how much income HAL will loose while spending the night in P.V. No Casino income No Shops will be open (Maybe the fuel savings will off-set income loss) Hmmm. No casino. No shops. Well, my savings should be substantial! Rare LAFFNVEGAS Posted March 13, 2011 #52 Share Posted March 13, 2011 Think about how much income HAL will loose while spending the night in P.V. No Casino income No Shops will be open (Maybe the fuel savings will off-set income loss) The true Number One Reason the ships are pulling out of West Coast Mexico is because of extremely low revenue on the West Coast sailings. I am guessing that the one night stay and saving of fuel may just off set it ;)
IRL_Joanie Posted March 14, 2011 #53 Share Posted March 14, 2011 Hey Ya'll, Just this moment got off the phone with Valerie at HAL and her cruise leaving this Saturday is Over nighting in Puerto Vallarte and OURS is over nighting in Cabo San Lucas. So, cancel Mazatlan Excursions, and start looking at things to do in Cabo, if you are on the April 2, 2011 Oosterdam Cruise. BTW, just as an FYI, Valerie is also a Cruise Critic Member and she had not received notice of the Mazatlan cancellation as of my call. She called her supervisor, as I waited, who told her Mazatlan was still a go. She and I were still talking CC and her supervisor called her back and told her of the changes effective this past Saturday!! I do not know if they are doing an every other type of week, one week Cabo, one week Puerto Vallarta, all I know is for this Saturday's Cruise and the Cruise for 2 April 2011. Jonsquatch Posted March 15, 2011 #54 Share Posted March 15, 2011 For the 19th via email.... "We would like to advise you of an itinerary change on the ms Oosterdam sailing on March 19,2011. Due to ongoing safety concerns, we have cancelled all port calls in Mazatlán, Mexico. Instead, we have extended our visit to Puerto Vallarta into an overnight stay. We sincerely regret any inconvenience or disappointment this change may cause."
Tamaracboy Posted March 15, 2011 #55 Share Posted March 15, 2011 From the HAL web site YESTERDAY: http://www.hollandamerica.com/news/Main.action then CLICK on "Travel Advisories" at the left Monday, March 14, 2011 Holland America Line Cancels Spring 2011 Mazatlán Port Calls At Holland America Line, the safety of our guests and crew is our top priority. As such, for the remainder of the 2011 Spring cruise season we are replacing Mazatlán on our published itineraries as follows: ms Oosterdam 7-day cruises departing March 12th, 19th, 26th and April 9th and 16th will now feature two days in Puerto Vallarta with an overnight on day three. The April 2nd departure will instead overnight in Cabo San Lucas on day four. The 10- or 14-day sailing on ms Zaandam departing April 10th and ms Oosterdam departing April 23rd will now call a second time in Cabo San Lucas on day six. Affected guests and travel agents are being notified. Discussions will continue with local authorities in Mazatlán to determine the appropriate time to resume port calls there. Should future itinerary changes be made, affected travel agents and guests will be notified. So far this does NOT extend beyond the Spring season. I am not sailing until this Fall. I like PV and there is lots to do @ night time there, but I would still prefer MAZ. Now as to Cabo: Why in hellter skelter overnight in a tender port ?????  Build that pier (long overdue for the amount of cruise traffic they live off of) and then I'd think about it. (or keep the tenders running all night) JMHO, r.
