Super secret snorkling spot vs Stingray City

Hi all,

I'm the kind of person who likes to blaze my own trail, but I also like to see the best of the best even if it is mainstream.

I think I would rather snorkle (with my dad and girlfriend) at an off the beaten path spot, where we feel a sense of adventure and see great coral reefs, fish, etc. as opposed to going to Stingray City, where I can imagine it's all a little "fake" feeling.

But..... I may be wrong. If anyone knows of an awesome snorkling spot that you think is better than Stingray City, please post it here. If you think Stingray City is so worth it that we should do it, even thought it's a little contrived, please tell me as well!

Thanks a lot!

If you haven't 'done' the rays - you should....I thought it would be like that, and yes, there are tons of tourist out there, but its a real, in the middle of the ocean experience - not like a dolphin swim that's set up for you....one of the neatest things I've done...
