lady_cruiser Posted March 20, 2011 #2 Share Posted March 20, 2011 Yes. Head on to www.galveston.com/webcams and click on the Cruise Cam. If you have a Facebook account you can see people chatting about the latest updates on the delays.

dillonsmimi Posted March 20, 2011 #6 Share Posted March 20, 2011 I am glad the port is back up and running, but have heavy doubts that they were closed due to fog. We went all the way down the Mississippi river in pea soup with no problems. The Galveston channel is wider, straighter and shorter than the Mississippi. Our captain did have to call for a pilot, tho. Today's ships (cruise, tankers, cargo,...) all have radar so sensitive that they can see a beer can floating. More likely there was some other (maybe security, maybe problem with another large ship stuck in channel) reason for the delay. Galveston is still struggling to come back from Ike and can tolerate no bad press. mimi

It has happened several times this year. Some ships did not leave for 2 days.

It can ruin a long planned, much anticipated vacation, that can't be replaced for some people, due to schedules and various circumstances. Our five day 2/19 cruise turned into a 3 day cruise to nowhere, because the Ecstasy could not leave until Monday morning due to the fog. We opted not to take the shortened cruise, but many people did; a couple of them have reviews posted here. Good luck on your sailing!
