type one mom Posted March 22, 2011 #1 Share Posted March 22, 2011 What is required for the deposit once you board the ship? What exactly should you plan (i.e. we do not drink alcoholic beverages)? Other than prepaying tips, what should you prepay? I know we'll still need some cash for tips . . . any other places where cash is a must? This will be our first cruise and we don't want any unpleasant surprises at the last minute.
Dirkgun Posted March 22, 2011 #2 Share Posted March 22, 2011 Really if you are prepaying your tips.... you don't need any money on the on board acct. If you wish to buy pictures or anything else you would need to settle up the bill before the end of the cruise. The other things that you might need money for ... other than alcohol is ... Shore excursions, soft drinks, etc. I know the last cruise we went on, we prepaid our tips and just put a little cash on acct. then added if we needed more or just tied a credit card to the acct then settled with cash before we got off so they did not charge the card. Enjoy your cruise.

*Mach* Posted March 22, 2011 #4 Share Posted March 22, 2011 With the possible exception of bingo you won't need cash for anything on the ship. All of the amounts that Carnival lists on their website for deposits are 'recommended' amounts. You might elect to purchase some items in the shops on board... you might elect to purchase some non alcoholic beverages, coffees and such. Sounds like you should be fine with a few hundred dollars. What ever you don't spend will be returned to you in the form of a check on the morning that you return to port. You can take the check to Guest Services and cash it there if you wish. :)
Room Service! Posted March 22, 2011 #5 Share Posted March 22, 2011 You might want to carry some one's for tips, if you use room service.
snebel84 Posted March 22, 2011 #6 Share Posted March 22, 2011 I am confused by this also....because our PVP told us we MUST as in it is a requirement, have a $200 dollar cash account opened PER person. (There are two of us going).
tak81288 Posted March 22, 2011 #7 Share Posted March 22, 2011 I am confused by this also....because our PVP told us we MUST as in it is a requirement, have a $200 dollar cash account opened PER person. (There are two of us going). I'm not sure why your PVP told you this. You can put whatever amount of cash you want on your account and replenish it throughout the week if needed.. I do suggest putting down how much you think you may need the first day though. It may become somewhat of a pain if you have to keep making visits to guest services to add more cash to your account(s).
reallyexcited Posted March 22, 2011 #8 Share Posted March 22, 2011 WE used cash last time and we did not put down 200pp.... we do not drink with the exception of 1 DOD the whole week. We booked our excursions though private companies. We bought 1 picture. We knew we were not going to spend 400 during the week on the ship :)
