Another Jewel 3/13 review

My husband and I were on this cruise and had a great time- this was different for us because we usually sail with our kids, so this was just an adult cruise for us--and did we have a good time!! I met Susie51 and many others from our roll call at the meet and greet that our roll call leader set up. Many of the officers and staff and Cruise Director Silas were present and spoke with us. Actually some of the officers and cruise director remembered us and spoke to us throughout the cruise.

The Jewel is beautiful and her crew is wonderful!! We enjoyed all the included food venues and did a specialty lunch called Best of All, it was superb. It had all the signature dishes from all of the Specialty restaurants and I would definitely do this again.

We did a little more contributing to the casino this trip and did a slot tournament which was a blast! Carlys(sp), the lovely lady manager at the casino was always pleasant and explained anything to us that we did not understand.

I agree about the adult pool- very difficult to get in and out of if you have bad knees, but the regular pool was wonderful and nice and warm and has easy to handle steps. We stayed on the ship in Cape Canaveral-all the spring breakers got off and we had the pool and ship to ourselves.

Great Stirrup Cay was a beautiful beach day and when they complete the upgrades there it will be awesome. We rented a clamshell and enjoyed our day in the shade.

Nassau we did an all inclusive day pass at Paradise Island Harbour Resort which was lovely but we did not realize that their beach was only about waist deep when you were in the water. The water was a little cool so we took advantage of the lovely weather and relaxed.

We met so many great waiters and waitresses and all were pleasant and accomodating and all were willing to spend a little time talking to us. We filled out many STYLE cards. A special shout out to Bala in Tsars-he and his smile could brighten anyone's day! There was only one waiter in Blue Lagoon one night that was not good, but that was our only complaint--he kinda forgot about us and someone else finally came and took over our table.

Our room stewards were great-room always clean-and towel animals every night . The first night they made us a little mouse and put it in a glass on our bed-it was adorable!

Entertainment was outstanding. Did not go to Band on the Run-have seen it numerous times and thought we'd do something else. The comedian, magician Jean Pierre, Le Cirque Bijou, crew show and Crazeehorse were terrific. Fountains funny as always.

The bands- Upryzin' Calypso Band, Jewel Show band, Twist of Eight

were very talented as were the musicians Los Amigos, Andy Wells (pianist), and our favorite RJ Red who sang in Bar Central and played guitar. We were calling ourselves his groupies by the end of the cruise.

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at the adult game shows and Latitude parties, and cannot wait to go again. Maybe 2012....?

Not only am I sailing her in July, but we are getting married on her as well.

Right now I am debating which MDR to have dinner in with my sailing guest. We will have a ceremony & reception (with sailing and non sailing guest) but that will be ealier in the day.

Did you have a chance to try out both MDR? I am choosing more so for decor and vibe, as you can't please everyone when it comes to taste! :D

Great review! I'm sailing the Jewel in May and can't wait.

Can you tell us more about the Best of All lunch. What foods did you have? Price.

Thanks,

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!! What a great idea to have it on the ship! We went to both MDRs during the week-they have the same menus each day, so food wise it wouldn't matter which one you picked. Tsars is more open and elegant wheras Azura is smaller, more closed in and intimate. Tsars has the curved staircase coming down into the restaurant which is very pretty. We thought the food was wonderful in both as well as the service. They would many times address us by our first names and we were in an ocean view room, not a suite. I think I preferred Tsars more because there was more room between tables.

The Best of All Lunch was the first sea day-Monday. I had read about this on the boards and had wanted to try it. We very seldom do the pay restaurants because we really feel that the food in the MDRS is good. The cost is $15 per person and I would suggest getting a reservation-we signed up as soon as we got on board. It is in Le Bistro and is set up as a classy buffet and menu service. You order off the menu whatever you want and then visit the buffet. They had sushi, chinese food, tex mex, prime rib carving station, salads, etc., and desserts. The creme brule was delicious. We also had escargot for appetizer--amazing!! They did have some cuts of meat and specialty items that were priced above the $15 dollars, but we did not order those- we had plenty to choose from. All served in the classy elegance of Le Bistro...very, very nice!

Was Ferdie still the Assistant Cruise Director on your cruise? We sailed on New Years, and he was there. My kids thought he was so funny. We are cruising on the Jewel again before Easter, and they want to see him again.
