Just off the Star Mexican Riviera ........

My DD and I did the Dolphin Swim Experience in PV....had a great time!!! A bit pricey, but all the dolphin swims are expensive. But now I can cross that off my 'bucket list' and move on to the next item!!

Not sure where Carson is (?)! You have the choice to walk off the ship first with ALL your luggage (which I think is a pain because you have to haul it with you where ever you go)...but this poses a big problem....there were SOOOO many people choosing to walk off with their luggage, it took way more time and delayed everyone else who had chosen to let the cruise line take care of their luggage and put it outside their cabin the night before. When you do that, you are given a certain colour of luggage tag, and the ship will call what colours are able to disembark at that time. We were almost 45 minutes later than scheduled for leaving the ship....and we had to get to the airport for a flight! I think there were some people who did have their luggage looked after by the ship, then chose to walk off with all the other early passengers.....again....it just delays the whole process.

I hope you have a great trip, and I hope you read the other replies that I wrote above about the shows!!

Thank you for all the good advice :)

We are thinking of a cruise on the Star but a friend told us it was old and worn (not someone I normally listen to) We have only cruised NCL Jewel Courtyard rooms and would love your opinion on the Star. Is it showing it's age r has it been refurbished? Thanks!

The Star was not too bad regarding wear.....the carpets are looking a bit worn and tired...especially the walkway from the bow of the ship along to the pool deck starboard side....of course a lovely ivory colour is not one I would have picked for such a high traffic area. Our room was ok...we were in a BA balcony and the 'sofa bed' was worn and I wouldn't have sat on it in my swim suit . It was completely worn down to the wood on the bottom next to the balcony...only because of people hitting it everytime they went out on the balcony. I found the bed extremely comfy...but my own opinion. A few of the lounge chairs around the pool and hot tubs were a bit worn, but nothing major.

Not sure if you are planning on hitting the casino or not, (I'm not a big gambler....$10.00 here and there on the penny slots) but the one thing that I thought was very odd in this day and age, was the fact that they allow smoking anywhere in the casino.....and of course if your walking by the casino, you get a good whiff of smoke...ick!

Hope this helps!! If you have any other questions, please ask away!!!:D

I will be on the star a week from today, whoo hoo! Sucks there will be no meet and greet, not enough people. ;( Sad condiering how many cc members there are. Hoping for warmer weather. Just wondering what would be a good time to leave the hotel in San Pedro to be one of the first people on board? Even though I live in L.A. County, still going to be staying the night before nearby.

Glad you enjoyed your time on the Star. It is our favorite NCL ship of the 4 that we've been on. Our 4th time on the Star is coming up in 21 weeks from today, but who is counting?!

As for wear and tear, I think all ships will show some signs of wear and tear no matter how new they are. There is such high traffic on these ships, with no resting unless it goes into drydock. I think NCL does a great job of keeping everything clean as much as possible and looking as presentable as possible.

Now, having said all that, when we were on the Star last September we were in one of the new suites. Being that it was a new suite, and as the room stewards told us, we were only the 3rd set of guests to use that particular suite, I was surprised to see already, some wear on the carpets.

As someone mentioned earlier, the new carpeting on deck 12 where the new suites are, surprisingly was beginning to show signs of wear. The carpet in the hallway was the same (or very similar) to the carpet used inside the suites - kind of a creamy color. So maybe they used a very cheap grade or something. With the volume these ships have, I would think they'd have chosen something that would wear better, but what do I know about ship decor???

Anyway, those things I just pointed out are small and insignificant. We love the Star and are sad that it is being removed from the AK itinerary starting in 2012. I guess we will enjoy her one last time while she is here in Seattle, starting next month.

That is too bad about the Roll Call! I really loved ours.

If you are taking a shuttle from your hotel you will probably find a madhouse downstairs in the morning. At least that is how it was at the Crowne Plaza. However, the port is only 5 minutes away and they have several shuttles so it does move quickly.

We left at 11 and when we got to the port the shuttle driver signaled a porter and our bags were whisked away. The wait to get through security was only a few minutes and we got right to the desk for suite check-in and then escorted to Cagney's.

The other stations didn't look too bad and the other pax were organized in groups waiting their turn.

Hope this info helps!

We were on the Star the week of March 26th and the"Laundry Special" was offered both Wednesday and Thursday nights for $24.95 for as much as you could fit in the bag.

linnealee

We stayed at the Doubletree at San Pedro and booked the 10:30am hotel shuttle to the port. Did not actually leave until around 11am as they were already backed up from their 9:30 start time. We were probably on the ship around noon as we were in a family suite! The shuttles ran every half hour and held up to 10 people. They were operating two shuttles, one for NCL passengers and the other for Princess passengers. You could only book it the day before the cruise.

Two questions:

1. What day is the laundry bag special on the Star

2. Was there a weekly spa pass on the Star and how much. I bought one when I was on the Jade.

Thx

I think 'justplanecrazy' answered your question on the laundry (although I only remember 1 day for laundry). The spa pass I heard was $119.00 pp...but I did not partake in that activity either!!!

If you have time, can you please share some of your pictures of the ship? I am trying to decide on a cruise for next year and am strongly considering the Star to Bermuda.

Most of the pictures I have found are from 2009 and older.

Thanks.
geee....I would if I knew how! Can anyone help me out?:o
The easiest way I know of is to find somewhere like webshots and FLICKR and upload the pictures. Once they are upload, you can either post the link to them here using the little picture of the world above with a link at the bottom of it OR you can use the square with the mountain and embed the pictures in a post. If you want to do this, the directions are different depending on wehre you upload your pictures. I can help you more once the pictures are uploaded

Someone else may be able to tell you how to do it without uploading them first, but I don't know how to do that.
