Formal nights?

I know that the 2nd night is a formal night, but what is the other formal night on a 7 day cruise? Is it the 5th night? If you choose not to participate in these nights in the MDR, can you eat in the speciality restaurants instead? BF does't feel like doing the formal thing especially after being in a suit all week for work.. Don't get me wrong, a nice pair of dress pants and shirt are fine but the suit is not for him. We usually go on all inclusive vacations to islands and are use to dressing nice for dinner but not in formal wear. We are in one of the Aqua Class cabins and will be dining in the Blu restaurant. Do they participate in the formal nights like the MDR?
