Great Time on Glory - Quick Review

Recommended Posts

We got back from the Carnival Glory this past Saturday. It was my DW, DD 12, DS 16, and me. We had a fabulous time all week long. The staff and crew were all excellent the whole week. (Except Timothy Hutchison, a manager in the casino, who quite rude one evening) The room was great. We had paid for an inside guarantee and ened up in room 1122. This was on the spa deck with a floor to ceiling window for a back wall!! :D

We loved our Cruise Director Carlo, he was gracious and very funny!

The shows were very good to great and we especially liked singer Marcus Anthony, comedians Mike Macy and Happy Coles, and The Rockin' Broadway show.

The food was very good in the restaurants. Our wait staff was very attentive and fun. Room Service was very good and the kids (and us) loved ordering room hot chocolate and goodies at midnight or later a few times.

The excurtions we did were fun. My DW and kids LOVED the cave tubing in Belize ( I couldn't go, as I am in a cast for a broken ankle). They did RegTours instead of the ships. We had done plenty of research and it turned out great. There were only 6 people with the owner's son as compared to about 50 people to one guide on the Carnival Tour, plus it was about $40 cheaper per person. The tour guide was great and gave them great info about the caves and country. We also went to Nachi Cocum Beach in Cozumel and had a great day there as well.

The debarkation was a mess as Carlo may have overhyped the self assist debarkation. The elevators were getting "stuck" and my wife had to go down to deck 4 to secure an elevator to come up to deck 11. We had been waiting for 25 minutes by then. They ended up opening a second door off the ship to fet off and through customs. Even after the issues we were able to get over

to Avis and to the gates of Sea World by abot 10am, not too bad!

The ship was great but was very large. If you have trouble with directiond it is very easy to get "lost" on the ship. Even on Thursday we were still hearing many people saying they were not sure where things were. I suggest exploring the ship from end to end the first day and if needed just ask others, everyone is very helpful!! I wish we were still on the ship, we just got a bunch more snow last night.

Thanks so much for the great review! We are going on the Glory 4/30 (hubby, myself, kids 8 and 10) and are all really excited about it. The kids have been on two cruises before (both NCL) but wanted Carnival because of the water slide and pizza - so here we go!

How did your 16 y/o like it. I am torn between the Glory or the Miracle, western itineraries. My kids will be 15 and 17 by the time we cruise. Did they have a meet and greet for the 15 - 17 y/o teens on the first night? Did your son hang out in the teen lounge and if so, how did he like it?

Heidiho...Our 16 yr old was not at all interested in the teen program. He hung out with us a little and spen most of the time with his sister. They get along very well and are a little shy around new people. There was a meet and greet the first evening for 15-18yr olds. The program for teens seemed very good, and although we encouraged our son to participate he did not. He still had a great time, I am sure yours will too!

Hi, all!

I, too just got off the Glory, and my 16-year-old daughter was with me. She participated in the teen programs almost every night and had a really fun time. Nothing more fun than making new friends! Cruise-critic doesnt' have teen message boards, but there are a couple of others, and my daughter found them and a couple of kids that were going to be on her ship, so she had already "met" a few, which made meeting people a little easier. (I think one of them is cruise-addicts, or something like that, perhaps a google search?) I'll try to find them for you....

They do all sorts of games, there are dances, etc. They even had a mock-blackjack tournament.

My word of advice is to self-assist getting off of the boat, if at all possible. We didn't get off the boat until after 11:00 am (people were already in line to get ON the boat). When I got to the carousel, my suitcase had been broken in two places: one of the wheels, and, of course, the handle (made carrying my suitcase interesting, to say the least!)

Marco56...I am Disneylovers husband and I posted underthat name earlier. I am the one with the broken ankle. I was able to get around the ship very easily. I used a walker with wheels and brakes. It also had a seat I could sit down on, if tired. We called this my WheelieBob. It worked out great as I could also sit on it and have my son push me around if needed. I HATE crutches and this was a better alternative.

Good Luck with your surgery and have fun on the ship! ;)

Question/comments about self-assist...we're on deck 6 and our room is close to the forward elevators (6284). From this board, we've been told to use the forward elevators not the main elevator since it will be closed. We'll have a big suitcase on wheels, a garment bag (large and full) as well as two carry one pieces. Are we going to have a hard time taking our luggage off the ship and through customs? What time did the self-assist get called. I assume from your post that the CD is pushing self-assist? Did many participate? Still haven't confirmed transportation from the ship to MCO. Probably go with Art's Shuttle since I don't want to wait for the bus to fill up with Carnival.

we were on 2/26 sailing...if you must get off ship early 730-830 it is a mad rush with self luggage program, we waited until about 900 am and waited in line to get off about 15 minutes. arts is great to used we saw them all over the place day before cruise and day of cruise, also family one is great to use.
