Water shoes needed at Chankanaab?

We're doing some swimming, snorkeling, and beaching at Chankanaab in April '05. Will we need water shoes getting into the water or will we be fine in our bare feet? (Not sure how rocky it is or how sharp the rocks/coral is.) Thanks!

I wouldn't say they are absolutely required, but I do recommend them. Not only will they protect your feet from any sharp/slippery rocks when entering the water, but they will also protect your feet from the hot sand. We always pack ours; you should be able to buy a pair for $5 from a department store. Have a great time!

Been to Chankanaab several times (4 or 5) and have not used any type of water shoes at any time. We found the stairs into the water to be a little slippery, not rocky or sharp. We've never had a problem getting in or out of the water.
