Balcony Smoking

No one was RUDE to anyone, We JOKED to ourselves in the cabin. An ocassional smoke doesn't me, but every few minutes from 6:30 in the morning is a bit of a problem. We hated to be chased back into the cabin every time we sat on the balcony. At least it seemed that way. Just sharing an observation and responding to the OP. No need to use *&$#%!

You are the one who got snarky and rude first by saying....

Put them all on one side of the ship and charge them extra....P.U.

I could careless if a cruiseline decides to move everybody to one side of the ship. (a logistical nightmare, so it will NEVER happen.)

But why should they charge the smokers MORE?

IF anything, it should be the other way around. (and they are called SPA cabins)

I crack up when people complain about how smoky the casino, piano bar etc.. get...

But that is what you wind up with, when you herd all of the smokers into a handful of tiny spots that they can light up.

I was on Crown Princess a year ago and went into the casino during its "no smoking" night. The place was like a morgue. I'll bet there weren't more than 10 passengers in the entire casino. Once 9:00 pm rolled around and the casino became smoking again, it was packed within minutes.

Must have been that sailing........we had a full house on the Crown...however I would have preferred it less crowded....

Too bad most are not that considerate:) My dh is the same way.....thanks!

You know it goes both ways. The non smokers could wait till the smoker finished. Why does the smoker need to always be the polite one?

Oh get over yourself. I'm a cigar smoker and enjoy my balcony that i paid for as well. If you are considerate/Polite and maybe ask the person next to you they might be able to work something out with you, but if you are a rude $#@%! than they won't.

I would have no issues compromising with somebody who was polite about it, but not somebody who is rude.

On the other hand, some people are just @$$holes.

I am hitting the LIKE button over and over!!:D:D:D

Actually that is the way my first few cruises were. One side of the ship's cabins were smoking and the other side were none smoking BUT I really think more folks smoked back then.

I was quoting someone that said they put their cig out if they see someone on the other balcony......and I thought that was considerate.......no mention of the smoker always being the polite one.

I agree I just don't understand someone booking a balcony on a Carnival cruise knowing they allow smoking.. would even bother complaining when it is a designated space that we are allowed to smoke.....

I have a thought can us smokers start complaining about the NON smokers taking up spaces on the lido smoking area with their families??? We have few spaces to begin with and here they come!!!! Oblivious to the fact even if you tell them:rolleyes:

Then don't you just love the snide comments and rolling eyes when they are sitting in the smoking area and there are plenty of tables and seats on the other side. If there is an ashtray on the table it's a good chance it is a smoking side of the ship.

Drives me up a wall.. but hey I am nice and considerate and let them know .. this is the smoking side of the ship maybe you may want to take your kids to the other side.. and then the look at me like I am the bad person:confused: hmmm well I think just as smokers do run to security for smokers in the non smoking areas.. non smokers in the smoking area should be reported.. I think I will do just that my next cruise:D

I've mentioned it before on other threads, and I'll say it again. I choose to spend extra money for a balcony so I CAN smoke. I won't smoke inside the cabin - because I find that more inconsiderate to both the steward and the next occupants. I won't smoke in areas that forbid it.

If I want to sit on my balcony and chain smoke all day for 7 days straight, outside, that is my right - and I paid for it. Carnival says I can, so dagnammit I'm gonna smoke!:D

As a non smoker I have a right as well as smokers to get a balcony. Knowing smoking is allowed I would try to book my balcony in the front of the boat which in my opinion isnt the best location for someone who gets sea sick but so be it. I would make arrangements to try to get the best location for me.

Also as a non smoker i would NEVER go into a designated smoking area and complain of the smoke. Thats a smokers area which i know aren't many and i would just stay away from that area. If i was in a casino and a smoker had his/her cigarette right in my face i would ask nicely at first and take it from there.

Although i chose not to smoke and i think some smokers are very rude by blowing their smoke in your direction i try to respect a smokers right and i hope smokers would respect a non smokers right.

As far as your rights i agree with you 100% that you should be able to complain about the lack of space and non smoking people getting in your way on the lido deck.

There are rude people on either side of the argument :) But it is annoying when smokers follow the rules and still get the "evil eye" from some folks. I'm a big believer in rules, otherwise there would be anarchy! A little give and take on either side would go a long way:)

1. If the smoker is a chain-smoker, then good luck on waiting until he or she is finished.

2. Because it's the smokers who are spewing carcinogenic smoke into the air for the non-smokers to breathe.

There. Answered your question.

Yes you have a right to a balcony as well as a non smoker as I do as a smoker.. but the apples to oranges is that smoking is allowed on the balcony.. it is not a non designated space... so for non smokers to continually complain that smoking where smokers are allowed is really getting old...

I will be complaining about non smokers in the smoking area my next cruise no worries there :)

1.makes no difference chain smoker or not.. any whiff of smoke and a non smoker will hit the roof and complain.. sorry I dont care if you say you go in side or not.. you hit the roof... If you wanted to cruise on Carnival and have a smoke free balcony experience you would have done your research and found the few ships that offer the SPA cabins...

2. We are spewing nothing more than the ship does out the smoke stack that you just dont happen to be in front of... or the buses or cars that drive by you everyday while you wait outside waiting for a bus to get to work...

That is simply not true......I am a non smoker and I have no problem being on the balcony when my dh smokes.......that is not the same as someone that chain smokes......

No matter what, smokers are gonna smoke on there balcony . Its bad for others health , its bad for there health and they dont care. Oh well , if your a non smoker and your next to a smoker , they wont be on there balcony 24 hours, just plan on going out when its smoke free out there. Its thats the worst thing I have to worry about on the cruise then its all good.....

Just curious - from what I've read, the wind is quite high while at sea on port and starboard balconies, so how is it that the smoke smell is so bad? I would think that if it's windy, that this wouldn't be a problem.

I'm asking because on my next cruise I will be in a port-side cabin, and I smoke (only on the balcony, never in the cabin).

My last two cruises were in an aft-wrap cabin, so I'd make sure to go around to another side if someone was out on their balcony.
