KevinsCruising Posted April 10, 2011 #1 Share Posted April 10, 2011 Had another great experience with NCL. Staff was fantastic. Had perfect weather also. 1st sea day was a bit too cool for using the pool. Did not get off in Florida. That was a pool day for us. Great weather at GSC. Love the new eatery that is put into place for the BarBQue. Made it fast and east to get food. Water was warm enough to stay in it all day. Rented a large raft and famiy we were with rented a clam shell. Nassua was off just walking around for a bit. Visited the straw market again then back to the ship for another pool day. Got hit with a 24 hr stomach virus that evening. Put me out of commission that night. Lost all the weight I put on :o. Felt better the next day but it came back and once again in for the night. :(. Better next day. Food...no complaints. Could always find something at the buffet. Ate both at Grand Pacific and Magenta. Seemed to have better service in Magenta. Also had breakfast and lunch in Cagneys...this time it seemed the service was much slower there. Best food overall was without a doubt in LeBistro. "standing ovation" ;) Went to Blue Lagoon to get my fix on hot wings before retiring. Casino...every night except for the nights I couldnt go out. Had a great time at the crap table. Sister in law did very well at 3 card poker. Friend also did well at texas hold em. The shows that I did see were very good. Getting off the ship a breeze. NYC crew is the best. Brought our luggage up to the roof to our truck in the parking area. Seems that the spring breakers were not on this cruise. More families with children. No complaints except I wish I did not get hit with the stomcah bug. My niece got hit it also and she was out for 2 days also. Love the GEM and looking forward to our next sailing. ;)

Journey11 Posted April 10, 2011 #3 Share Posted April 10, 2011 Kevin, thanks for your review. I am glad you managed to have a good cruise in spite of your temporary illness. Question: I recognize that all reviews are subjective, but another poster just off the Gem reported that the Gem was showing signs of wear. What are your thoughts on that? Did you think she was in good shape?

I heard of a few people sick, but not many. Hope your feeling better.

Question: I recognize that all reviews are subjective, but another poster just off the Gem reported that the Gem was showing signs of wear. What are your thoughts on that? Did you think she was in good shape? I thought the GEM is still in great shape. The rugs do not look worn down and all the brass is still nice and shinny. No complaints. SuzieQ123 Posted April 10, 2011 #10 Share Posted April 10, 2011 Kevin, thanks for your review. I am glad you managed to have a good cruise in spite of your temporary illness. Question: I recognize that all reviews are subjective, but another poster just off the Gem reported that the Gem was showing signs of wear. What are your thoughts on that? Did you think she was in good shape? That was me, and we saw visible wear and tear in comparison to RCCL ships twice her age. Our balcony was one of them, the door didn't lock, you had to stick a wooden stick in it to keep the wind from howling through. Our carpet was stained also. Now some people would say thats "normal" but I don't think it is for a 3 year old ship. It didn't ruin our trip we still enjoyed it but to say this ship is in perfect shape is certainly not something we could say. They also need to do some more thorough cleaning, we saw a lot of fingerprints on windows and doors, not a big deal to some in the grand scheme of things but this is where things like Noro Virus start. 3 times I went into public bathrooms and walked out, no toilet paper, no soap... sorry this is just not acceptable in a place germs start. SuzieQ123 Posted April 10, 2011 #11 Share Posted April 10, 2011 I just want to add, the problems are not the crew, I do honestly believe this ship is understaffed in many areas, the crew members are only capable of so much. We spoke with several who told us they work 70 hours and only after 70 hours are they paid "extra" It just didn't seem like there were enough people to do all the jobs. Pooh&OurHunny Posted April 11, 2011 #12 Share Posted April 11, 2011 Thanks for the post, we drove at Pier 88 (Saturday around 9:30) and we told our son we are going on the Ship (Jewel) in two weeks...he was so excited. What time did you get to the ship when you left on the cruise? How was the parking suitation? Any advice or suggestion with the parking? Do you think its worth it to rent the clam shell at GSC? Was getting the food at GSC, long or was it easy? Thanks
