Sailing from NYC

We are considering a cruise in February, 2012 on NCL out of New York City. Does anyone have feedback on how long before the ship reaches weather which is warm enough to at least sit outside in shorts and tee shirts?

We realize that we will have to experience similar conditions on the return leg of the cruise, so we are actually trying to figure out how much of the cruise will actually feel like we are away from the harsh northeast winter temperatures and the experience is somewhat tropical.

Thanks in advance

We were on the Jewel out of NYC Jan 23.... first full day at sea wore heavy sweater but by day 2... shorts! :D. On the way home it Feb 2 it was just the last full day at sea that long pants and jackets were required... still some where in the hot tubs and heated pools but we could sit on the aft balcony (no wind and all sun) with shorts and tees most of the day

It depends on the weather. In my cruises out of NYC/NJ -

1st week of March 2008, you really couldn't put on warm weather clothes until the end of the 2nd day.

President's week of Feb 2009 - Not until the 3rd day

1st week of March 2010 - Halfway through the 2nd day.

This past January we left on Sunday and the weather ws beautiful by the second sea day. Last month we were able to sit outside the end of the first sea day. It was well worth it! We did the 10 day in January and the 7 day in March. We love cruising out of NY..it is so nice for us not to fly. Coming back we were good until the day before we got back in January..it was nice just sweatshirts.

Same thin in March.

I guess it all depends on what type of weather you are use to, anything over 60F is shorts and t-shirt for me. We left NY in Oct. "08" for a repo cruise and was rather nice--high 60's, but for some that seemed cold--for us it was light jeans & T-shirt others wearing coats & jeans. We always bring something for all types of weather as you never know what you'll run into. By the first sea day you should be enjoying warmer weather--staying out of the wind.

Have a great cruise!!:D
