Solara Posted April 12, 2011 #1 Share Posted April 12, 2011 We doing the the dome train ride from the Pacific side (Fuerta Amador) to the Atlantic side (Colon). Which side of the train will be the one that is closest to the canal? Thanks.
BillB48 Posted April 13, 2011 #2 Share Posted April 13, 2011 If the train is starting on the Pacific side, the left side will be closest to the Canal. Fairly soon after you leave the Pacific terminal you will be able to see Miraflores Locks. Passing through a short tunnel you will parallel Miraflores Lake with Pedro Miguel Locks in view. Just after passing Pedro Miguel Locks you will have a very brief look at the Southern end of Gaillard Cut. This where the train goes inland a bit and you won't see the Canal again until you reach the Gamboa bridge which is at the North end of Gaillard Cut. This next 5-7 miles will take you along a section of the main channel of the Canal. The rest of the trip will take you along the edges of Gatun Lake where you may get a glimpse of the Canal and ships in the distance.
