dvd - Question for you...

Did they have a slot tournament during the week? I just ready another post that said they don't have them anymore on the Legend. That's hard to believe with what a moneymaker that is...

They had 2 slot tournaments and only 1 blackjack tournament on the Miracle. The BJ tourney wasn't that busy, but the slot tournaments were absolutely packed!

I'm afraid I'm the wrong guy to ask--none of us in our group gamble. The only time we saw the casino was when we were using it as a shortcut.

Leaving the Legend in a tender in the early morning

I can see that the ship in the bottom photo is the Legend (Spirit Class), but which Carnival ship is in the top photo? It looks like a Conquest Class ship. Regardless, it's a great photo. But, I am curious which ship the top photo is of? Do you remember?

I believe it was the Valor; she was at every port we were at.

Oh--and credit for that pic goes to Lisa. In fact, if you notice a picture in my review that is well-framed, clearly focused, and high quality, it probably was taken by Lisa. :D

They do still have them. We were on the Legend the week before dvd and they had slot, blackjack, and texas hold em tourneys throughout the week

Thanks for the info; I couldn't believe they would do away with those. I can understand why the BJ tourney might not be a big moneymaker because with all of the platinum guests using their "free" entry, they don't pull in a ton of $, but the slot tourney?? Not the same thing...

Thanks for the Cozumel pics! I can't really tell from the pics if the Legend docked at the pier I've docked at every time I've been to Cozumel (once on RCCL, once on Celebrity) - is it the dock where you have a pretty long walk into the downtown area, or is it the dock that's close to downtown?

I really don't know! We took a taxi the opposite direction from downtown, and I really didn't pay any attention to the fare quotes for that way. Sorry!

The Carnival pier which the Legend usually uses if the furthest pier from downtown.

We docked at the one downtown on our first cruise to Cozumel, but that was because the Carnival pier was still being repaired from a huricane. But docking downtown if you want to shop was nice.

If you want to head to a beach, then the carnival pier is much closer.

Thanks! I thought it was probably the same pier I've docked at on other cruises, and I'm glad it's closer to beaches because we are going to Nachi Cocum :)

Saturday, April 2 – (Last) day at sea

Noooo! We don’t want the cruise to end! The enjoyment of the day was, just a tiny bit, overshadowed by the fact that each minute drew us closer to port and the end of the trip.

We slept in again. (By which I mean 8:00 or so. We have some friends who can sleep until 1 or 2:00 p.m.—now THAT is sleeping late! But I digress…) The four of us went up to the Lido deck for breakfast. As on our previous day at sea, things felt crowded again.

After breakfast, we returned to our cabins to put on swimwear and sunscreen. Kellie and I wanted to enjoy some time in the sun, Andy and Lisa wanted to lounge in a hammock on the Serenity deck. So we decided to divide up and meet back for lunch.

Andy and Lisa had no luck whatsoever in finding ANYTHING open on the Serenity deck. As usual, everything was “saved.” We fared a little better. After about 20 minutes of searching, we found two lounge chairs that were not taken on deck 10. We dragged them together and set up camp. We read and napped in the sun, with a nice breeze moving over us. It felt decadently lazy and very refreshing.

We met up for lunch on Lido. Today they had a dessert buffet set up, with nearly everything chocolate. I’ll try this one, and one of these, and—ooo, THAT looks yummy!—one of these…

We did our best to try it all (and seconds on the really good stuff) and then felt stuffed to the gills.

At 2:30, we attended the Love and Marriage Show, which was very, very funny. Wee Jimmy did a great job hosting it. (Incidentally, at the start of the cruise, I didn’t care for Wee Jimmy—it seemed he was trying too hard to be funny. But by the end I was enjoying his efforts.) He picked a newlywed couple, a couple who had been married for about 60 years, and a third couple right in the middle, married about 30 years, and brought them on stage He asked the guys and girls each a set of questions, and they were to write down their answers. Their answers were compared to their mate’s responses, with hilarious results. Wee Jimmy did a good job keeping it funny, tasteful, and not hurtful to anyone.

After the show, we went to the various shops on the ship to buy a watch for Andy. Naturally, we bought one for Kellie instead! Lisa found a chain she wanted as well.

From 5:15 to 5:45 we attended the Farewell Party in the Firebird Lounge. CC reviews had warned us to keep an eye out for it, since otherwise you would miss it completely in the Fun Times. When we got down there, there were signs outside the lounge that said “Private Party.” Wee Jimmy greeted us at the entrance and asked to see our invitation. We laughed and went on in. We wondered, though, how many people were deterred, thinking it was some other private event. In fact, Kellie helped one woman who thought exactly that and wasn’t going to go inside.

There were servers circulating with trays of drinks, which included lime daiquiris, whiskey sours, Manhattans, and Carnival wine, all complimentary. We also went up to the bar, and ordered gin & tonic and Long Island Ice Tea—also complimentary. A nice little affair, if you knew about it.

At 6:00 we went to our last meal in the MDR. The wait staff sang “You’re Leaving Our Fun Ships,” set to the tune of “Leaving on a Jet Plane.” We got the email addresses of our favorite servers, and gave them extra tips for a job exceedingly well done.

As had become our tradition, we went to deck 3 to search for all our photos. Now it was time to decide on which ones we wanted to purchase. Following what some others did, we sorted them into 3 stacks: Definitely keep, definitely discard, and then: undecided. Naturally, the “undecided” stack was the largest! After agonizing over it, we finally made our decisions. We went to the counter and ordered the pictures we wanted. We specified we wanted reprints, because the proofs were pretty battered by that time.

We went by Satchmo’s for karaoke. The crowd was very small there, so Kellie worked her nerve up and decided to sing. (She sang on our last cruise, but that was a while ago.) So she approached the DJ—and he said he was closing up to take his equipment to the Firebird for SuperStar Live (where participants sing in front of a live band). So we went to SuperStar, and she put in the slip to sing! Wow! She was the third one up that night. She was so nervous, but did just fine. She sang “Wide Open Spaces” and really put her heart into it. I wouldn’t have the guts for that if my life depended on it!

SuperStar ended at 10:00, then we went upstairs to Follies. At 10:30 they would be presenting the “Legends” shows. This is where passengers, who auditioned earlier in the week, would play the part of music “legends,” such as Elton John, Elvis, Ricky Martin, Madonna, and Sinatra. Most were very, very nervous performing in front of such a huge audience, but you could tell they were trying hard, and everyone in the audience seemed to appreciate their effort.

Once the show was done, it was time for the depressing task of packing for departure. We were going to take advantage of the self-disembarkation, so at least we didn’t have to worry about what went in each bag and getting the bags out into the corridor.

We had been checking our S&S account throughout the week on the room TV. We checked it again that night—and there was an error on it from our photo purchase. So I had to put some clothes on and go down to guest services, stand in line, and get that taken care of. Not what I felt like doing at 11:45 at night, but better than doing it in the morning!

So that was the end of our last full day on the ship. Coming up: A few more pics, then disembarking and random notes.

Enjoying lunch at sea...

We saw many kids this day with their faces painted (I assume a Camp Carnival activity.) This little girl was so cute and happy, we asked her mom if it was OK if we took her picture.
