angel61 Posted April 16, 2011 #1 Share Posted April 16, 2011 Is there a charge to use my Verison I phone in Cozumel? I would like to use the web service or gps.
kr8z Posted April 16, 2011 #2 Share Posted April 16, 2011 I have had iPhones through AT&T for the past 3 years. I can tell you my experience assuming Verizon is the same. I place my phone in airplane mode when I lose my signal and get the SeaCell signal or whatever it is. In port, I turn on my wifi. If you are using wifi and not 3G, there is no charge. If you use 3G, be prepared for a hefty bill. I have used my iPhones in Coz a few times at a wireless hotspot without charge.
ORDMan Posted April 16, 2011 #3 Share Posted April 16, 2011 Unless you have subscribed to an international data plan, I suggest leaving the setting "data roaming" OFF at all times. So in short YES, it will be very expensive to use your iPhone over the cell network.
NJoyCruise Posted April 16, 2011 #4 Share Posted April 16, 2011 I use my iPhone wifi to make calls using iCall or Skype and posting in facebook - No charge and there's plenty of hotspots in Cozumel. I don't trust the airplane mode (yes, I'm a bit paranoid - LOL) so I take off the SIM card as soon as we sail away. I put it back when we get back to the US. Enjoy! The airplane mode works, trust me on this. Besides, I use my phone the whole time on board to check the time and take photos and video. The HD on the 4G iPhone takes really good pictures. dclark Posted April 17, 2011 #6 Share Posted April 17, 2011 Paradise beach in Cozumel has great free wifi. I served the net there last summer while multitasking (smoking a cuban cigar, watching the water and drinking one of those large yard drinks!).
