alaska clothing

The temperature in Alaska can be all over the place at the end of June. The average high for Juneau, Ketchikan and Skagway is 65F degrees. The lows can be in the 30s at night. You will also more than likely need an umbrella, because it rains alot. If you have any excursions of the beaten path, bring hiking boots. The rule I follow is bring clothing for all types of weather. There really is not any specific weather condition you can count on other than variable.

The weather can vary, and since you are from MA, you know the importance of keeping your head, chest, hands, and feet warm when it is cold and rainy.

It would be wise to pack clothing of which you can wear in layers, i.e. T-Shirts, long-sleeve shirts, and thermal shirts to layer under sweaters and jackets. Depending on your outdoor activities, water-resistant clothing is the best: non-slip walking shoes, hiking shoes (pack a change of socks for each day), a rain jacket/rain hood which you can fold up, an umbrella, gloves, a water-resistant backpack, etc. You may also want to pack track suit material-like pants in case it rains during your excursions, as wet jeans or wet cotton pants are not pleasant!

Layers are the best. Bring everything from a swimsuit, shorts to a winter coat. There are some days when you will need a coat- especially while in Glacier Bay. I also suggest bringing a thick terrycloth robe for trips to the pool and hot tub and for early morning sitting on the balcony.
