What the beach like?

In February we were in Progreso and was told the beach was full of seaweed and not so nice at the time so we ended up not visiting it (we didn't have time after our tour to Dzib. and Merida) but we will not be back in a few days and I have 16 other people traveling with me this time and was wondering if the beach was nicer now. I had contacted tour operator but must of missed him now he had said he was going on vacation the same time but he had others that could help but I must not of gotten back with him soon enough so now I have nothing for everyone to do in advance. My original thought was to try to get them to one of the closer ruins and to see a little of the area and then get to spend time on the beach, but it may have to just be the double decker bus and beach area at this point.
